In 2009, Amazon had released a Kindle version of “1984”. The publisher decided it didn’t want it to appear as a e-book. So Amazon complied, and erased it from the Kindles that had “downloaded” it.

Doesn't Atlas Shrugged have a better ending? Not exactly - the collectivists destroy the USA and throw it back to an 1850's level of technology - with John Galt stating at the end that he and his industrialists were returning to the ruined world to rebuild it. More optimistic than 1984 but Atlas Shrugged still postulates that the only way forward is to let the Left break everything, first.
