If I recall it happened. Late seventies, van full of partying teens, driver decides to try to beat a train to the intersection. The driver miscalculated and that van split open and spewed bodies for a hundred yards or so, and the left, starting with Newsday spent months trying to make it the Long Island Rail Road fault. It was the point that I consciously realized that there was something wrong with certain people in the political spectrum.
