Perhaps if Musk could develop a Linux distro that was a easily customizable for enhanced efficiency as Windows is (and "needs") then it could obtain major share in the desktop market.

I can relate to this. Windows Update has been a motivating factor for some in ditching Windows permanently.

System76 specializes in Linux-specific desktops and laptops if you’re in the market anyways.

I currently run a System76 system.

Be aware that the hardware is specifically oriented towards their own OS--Pop!_OS. I tried putting Fedora on this laptop, but ran into some serious issues with graphics and audio to the point that I just gave up and re-installed Pop!_OS on it.

That was due to a lack of time, and there is a community out there devoted to getting Fedora running on System76 hardware. But it is not for the faint of heart.

Regardless--once you put a GUI on your system, it doesn't really matter what the underlying OS is if you are just a desktop/consumer-oriented user.

Thanks for the information. I would suspect probably not much operating system changes going to be happening here.

I don’t usually like going down this road because it can sometimes come off sales-pitchy but there are other brands out there.

Framework has made good Linux laptops according to the reviews I’ve seen, and I know that the Purism laptop appeals to some because of its unique feature. There’s also Tuxedo.

Purism put a hard on/off switch with its wifi adapter, as well as a hard on/off switch for its web camera. “Kill switches” for the security purists.

In the end all I know is what we have GOT to get more people off of big tech. That’s what I know, that is what we need to do.
