That's the key point. The leftist pro-Hamas protests go far beyond free speech. There is ample video of the pro-Hamas protestors assaulting people, threatening them with immediate bodily harm, and blocking public streets and sidewalks.

On top of that, the pro-Hamas protestors and their university hosts are taking actions that are clearly in violation of laws prohibiting discrimination based on religion by publicly funded universities.

Those universities pretend that "free speech" applies to pro-Hamas protestors threatening Jewish students, but somehow they would never allow the same kind of speech directed at other groups. That's discrimination against the Jewish students.

It isn't that the statement is illegal in any way. The illegal part is a university allowing students to chant statements that are seen as being against one religion, but preventing students from saying anything against other religions, racial groups, or groups with a particular sexual preference.

That difference in treatment between Jewish students and everyone else is what the legal debate is about.

Existing anti-discrimination law prevents universities from discriminating against students and staff based on their religion.

Blocking streets and sidewalks is not speech. It is law breaking. Assaulting people is not speech. It is assault.

In order to have massive demonstrations, permits are called for so as to allow the public to avoid them.

The the left, "Your speech is violence. My violence is speech". The left does not believe in equality before the law.
