Yes, so many people from around the world were surprised and delighted at the hospitality they experienced at the 2018 World Cup at and away from the venues where the matches took place.

““Would you feel safe going there now?”

Nope”

Which is... kinda the point I’ve been trying to make here.... yet getting bombarded with snark and mockery for doing so. Thank you for your honesty.

“I was living in Russia during the 2018 World Cup and went to a match in Rostov-na-Donu. There were tons of international people and many Americans. Logistics and organization were flawlessly executed.”

Yes, well... even “our” worst cities can manage to put on a showing and a pretty face if or when the incentive is high enough ($$$). We’ve even seen how some leftist states gift the homeless with one-way bus tickets OUT of town.. just to temporarily clean up their streets. Still not the point, though. Tourism in Russia back then when Russia was not embroiled in a war was different than it is now.

Other than the usual stupidity of extreme partisan politics, I don’t know why this should be such a touchy subject. Russia is involved in a war right now. Russia, as a nation, is NOT a friend or ally of America. Even ‘if’ you are a pro-Russia US citizen, bad things can happen to you now if you choose to travel to Russia for fun. It ain’t rocket science to conclude that it’s probably not a good idea for Americans to ‘go there’ as things stand. Yet here we are.

I have no doubt that there are beautiful places in Russia to visit. And again, that is also not the point I’m trying to make. I also get that there are Tucker fans posting here. I just don’t happen to be one of them. I don’t trust him, despite him saying ‘some’ of the right things. Touting Moscow over “any US city” is not what I consider to be a ‘right thing’.

El Salvador is one of the safest places on the planet. They have imprisoned all the drug gang, tattooed monsters that terrorized the people for too long, and it has been at the cost of a pretty draconian enforcement. Some places in South Asia you can get caned for not throwing chewing gum in the trash receptacle.
-totalitarian?

I am not for a totalitarian state, but I lived in Detroit in the 1980s, and it wasn’t pretty. Law enforcement openly stated that they could NOT protect you and the safety of your family, and that was an individual responsibility...
-Anarchism?

Neither is pretty, but having a system of law enforcement based on individual rights is pretty desirable and it has to be enforced while not infringing on the rights of an American Citizen, and all that entails.

We are in a cultural war right now. The Leftists want to push us into some pretty historically disastrous paths, like the USSR, Red China 1960s, Cambodia 1970s...

We better start educating our population on ideological history and the nature of the political extremes and their inevitable results.

“Despite the negative attention from the MSM, the 2014 Winter Olympics and 2018 World Cup dispelled the notion that Russia was unsafe to travel around. Many thousands of people from around the world traveled to Russia and had a fantastic time there, including a number of FReepers.”

So... it’s a matter of “negative attention from the MSM” to you? Correct me if I’m wrong, but back in 2018 there was no war in Russia going on at that time. Things have changed... as they always do. Or is that not a reality that some here want to grasp?

To some here, apparently Russia is our best friend on planet earth. In what alternate universe would that be true? Remember that little thing called the “cold war”? How about the fact that Russia and Iran are ‘cozy’ now.

Sorry, but the delusional defense of Russia and/or Ukraine here is surreal to me. I just don’t get it. Neither are our friends or allies and neither should be getting our money OR our friendship.

“He isn’t pandering. It is you that wants to believe the worst. We can’t fix this problem in the US until we admit what we have turned into. Our cities used to have great areas too. Now those great areas are going to shat. Denying it because you hate Russia isn’t going to fix us.

Problem we have is that the large cities are looking like big dumps and smelling like toilets.

Think about San Francisco. It was a gorgeous diamond and bustling with business and life. Now? Boarded up, smelly, and full of homeless.”

Yes, he is pandering to Russia and to the PTBs that back Russia currently. He said “any US city”. There are plenty of US cities that are not “s-holes” and have not been utterly destroyed by the same leftist evil that the Marxist Democrats and the leftist Russians have in common.

And for the record, I don’t “hate Russia”. I hate their government and political ideology... just as I hate the Marxist Democrats (and RINOs) that are currently running and ruining America. This stupid game of choosing Ukraine vs. Russia, or vice versa, is idiotic. Neither is worthy of our money, our help or our friendship.

I recall the day in 1992 that Billy Graham appeared in Moscow to save Christians. I was watching on TV and it was the most beautiful moment in history, IMO. People were racing toward Graham in that stadium... to be saved as Christians, much to the chagrin, no doubt, of the political PTBs there at the time. It was wonderful. But that was the common people of Russia, not the leaders...and Russia is now being run by an ex-KGB ahole... just as Ukraine is being run by a pervert ahole. NEITHER is worthy of our defense here... and traveling to those nations right now is NOT safe for US citizens. Good grief, how the hell can this even be in question to some people?
