Meats here (including chicken and most fish) are generally up 50% or more, according to the receipts I just went back through. That excludes the imported stuff my wife (Filipina) buys at a local “international store”, as she tends to “lose” the receipts because she knows I won’t like the prices of a lot of the specialty stuff she craves. So, I can’t comment to that. Same “not enough data” with Salmon, for her fish soups (which have a lot more veggies than fish in them), except I think wifey does sometimes buy Salmon @ Wally World — but I still don’t see the receipts.
Salmon filets themselves as a serving I’ve not had for years. $8 or more / lb. is way too unaffordable.
That’s good advice, and I’m the bargain hunter in the family. Our closest Farmers’ Market is 20+ miles away, though, and we don’t get over that way very often.
Pre-Covid I’d snag fresh chicken leg quarters in 10 lb. bags for $0.39 / lb. Might be local surplus as there’s a proccessing plant near here. Cook up 2-3 lbs. and rebag the rest in 2-3 lb. bags, foil over that, label & in the freezer they go. But $.59 / lb. would be a very good sale now.
One other thing I’ve noticed is lower % discounts on clearance stuff, like Wally Worlds bakery shop pastries and breads, in addition to the much higher “fresh” cost. I’ve just about given up on even the types of day old stuff that tend to hold up for a couple days, and had cut back a lot anyway for health reasons. It’s an occasional peanut butter and grape jelly bread sandwich “treat” from here on out, I guess.
Ok!
