That is cool! I’m in northern Illinois, so I’ll have to settle for the ISS passing overhead crime time to time.
Wow am I out of touch with space flight. I thought we were still using the Russians to launch crews to the Space Station. When did Space X take over that role?
Including a launch time would be helpful
That is an amazing site! Thanks for the link!
You’re welcome! FReegards!
Stage 2 is never recovered. In the very earliest planning of Falcon9 they considered it, but rejected as impractical.
Late 2020. And a good thing; the Russians are having a lot of trouble with their Soyuz spacecraft lately.
“ Why couldn’t they have done this at a more decent time…”

It’s those darn orbital mechanics again. How inconvenient they are. ;-)
I saw it in person. I set the alarm for 2:30, woke, and dragged a lawn chair out to the shore at Cocoa Beach. The dark sky was clear and the stars were as sharp as pins. Suddenly, the northern horizon lit up and glowed bright orange-yellow as Space X lifted off. The rocket angled to the east as it rose higher on a knife-like jet of flame and got smaller until it was almost a red dot. Then, after about thirty seconds, there was a flash with a ring of white light as the first stage separated and the second stage continued upward. Now there were two red dots in the sky, one falling, the other rising. The wind carried a faint whiff of kerosene and in a minute or two the launch area lit up again as the first stage returned. Finally, there was a double boom which shook the ground. It was quite a show, and there is another launch scheduled for tonight.
Check out NextSpaceflight in the App Store. It’s free and has a detailed and constantly updated list of all space launches throughout the world.
Why are we STILL allowing the russians on OUR station, or cooperating with them in ANY endeavor?
I guess you missed the “International” part of the International Space Station.
more like Boeing is having the problems.
Boeing is indeed having problems, which does not negate that Roscosmos is having problems.
Another one just launched……9:10 PM
Another 22 Starlink sats were sent up today, successful 1st stage landing. Seems like every couple days or so...!
Yes, I know. I was wondering about the 1st stage.
Holy !!!!
I Swear I read your question as referring to the second stage ... and I wasn’t drunk.
The answer is “yes”, successful recovery of the first stage on land. They didn’t show much of its descent but did show the landing.
No doubt, you watched something. I just can’t trust any agency or contractor of an agency.
