Yes. Having anything to do with the whole Balkans should automatically qualify somebody to have their head examined. Bosnia is not particularly rich territory and it comes with it a massive headache about what to do about the constantly warring locals. The Habsburg Empire would have been far better off without it.

“ts no surprise that the latecomers were very dissatisfied with this arrangement. They were dependent on others for vital raw materials which could be cut off any time and they didn’t have secure markets which could also be cut off at any time. That was a big part of the cause of WWII.”

It is easy for westerns to just blame the germans or the Japanse for bad things that took place in WWII, and I get that, and as an American understand it - Pearl Harbor should not have happened.

I have also tried to look at the world with the eyes of a youn educated person in Japan in the 1900-1930s period, and tried to view the world - Asia in particular - as they might have seen it. I don’t think they had cause to see a Japanese empire as out of the norm of the western empires all over Asia at the time.

I think Hitler and the Japanese military were wrong. But I can see how world events leading up to WWI and WWII could have contributed to the public support they had, and how the holders of the western empires could have changed things more positively for all, undercutting both Japanese militarism and Hitler in their own countries.
