Our family was on vacation and saw Stonehenge at the Solstice in the mid 1970’s.
It wasn’t the big circus it is now, but there were still a few weirdos back then.
The women in paper dresses have been a family joke for 50 years.

Sure is funny about those Guide stones. The debris and remaining rocks were removed within a few hours, and no suspects were ever found. And no real effort either. And no mention on the news to speak of.
It’s almost like they didn’t want anyone talking about what was written on them and hated the sudden attention.

The locals really hated those things. They couldn't have chosen a more hostile place to erect them. There are marble quarries and rock saw mills all over that area. The gas station owner was very displeased when I stopped to ask how to find them.
Have you ever watched a 30ft diameter rock saw at work? Good Lord! It was mounted on a carriage like an overhead crane, cut a swath 1" wide and 1" deep each pass, and almost made no sound.
