But I wish someone could explain how she, who had been born on our farm and as far as I knew had never even seen a snake, knew that it was such bad news?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Born with instinct. One of my cats leaped straight up at the sight of a coiled rope on the ground before she ever saw a snake.
And with bears just any old little firearm won’t do, just irritates them.
Usually they leave people alone, but in a sow with a cub or two?? Watch out....
LOL~~~
.357 Mag or better will do for black bears. A .44 Mag is better.
It's the job that's never started
as takes longest to finish.
We have brown bears around here. Are they the same? It’s mountain lions I’m skeered of. Seen their scat (huge!) and paw prints (big!) on our property. Neighbors trail cameras have caught pictures of them. DH has seen them crossing the road a few times. Very rural of course. We’re near a small branch of river so lots of animals around.
Depends. Brown bears a grizzlies. But Black bears can be any color, from blond to brown to black. I have seen them blond with dark socks. But even the big Brown bears can be handled with magnum revolvers, though I would rather a .44 Mag in their country.
Those cats are a worse problem because they wont let you know they are there. I would consider a chest holster for accessibility. I spent a lot of time in the high Rockies and never saw one but I did see deer they had killed. Spooky, since you know they are still close by.
I was in 29 Palms in early 1970 as a Cannon Cocker.('05s). People hated Stumps. I loved it.
The Stumps data center was looking for a few good men.
I explained to the CO my qualifications and he was interested and set up an interview.
If this goes thru, my MOS changes, and I'm probably set for the foreseeable future.
He walks me thru the facilities and it's all hardware I am familiar with.
I sit down and hand my SRB to him. He takes one look and says “I can't have you”.
My SRB was red tagged (there were also white and blue tags applied to some Marines’ SRBS)
Red tag meant I was going to Vietnam.
So close, but yet so far.
