I wonder if there is a required format for providing it data...and if there is a limit to how much data you can feed it.

If there is no limit and if data can be provided in a simple format (like comma delimited), the possibilities are endless.

As a rusty old quant, I am quite excited about this.

LOL. Best I can tell, it’s racist as hell...using all those fancy racist equations and such.

That chatbot told them that the Russia Russia Russia hoax was fake and it was actually Russian disinformation that went via Hillary Clinton. They said this freaking chatbot is defective, LOL

It was the reporter that was defective

I share your assessment of the article. However, in the case of similar articles about emerging technologies posted on FR, I absolutely loathe the insipid and vapid comments that typically emerge here, from those whose last mastered an emerging technology at about the time cordless handsets were developed. Equally annoying is a knee-jerk “conservative” dismissal ‘that liberal crap’ no matter what the technology is and how they might actually be able to profit from it if they knew anything about it.

“At present, ChatGPT is like having a very good professor (who has no ego and is very eager to help) as your administrative assistant...at least for the things I have been asking it so far.”

I agree with that also.

“After a few weeks, when I mentioned that error to a fellow Freeper, that Freeper checked and found that ChatGPT had correctly itself and, at that time, provided the correct answer.

As an aside, when I caught the original error, I submitted a feedback note to ChatGPT about it.”

You should ask why it made the original error and why it made the correction.

They don’t respond to corrections. Why don’t you pose your question to ChatGPT?

"Bottom line, though...ChatGPT is going to immediately eliminate a lot of programming jobs."

I've had several interesting experiences with ChatGPT creating contracts and creating program logic. I don't see it eliminating jobs so much as greatly reducing tech debt.

No, it won't.

I thought so at first, but having experimented with it quite a bit, I've come to two conclusions:

One, any serious development work would take so long to 'explain' to ChatGPT that the novel you would have ended up writing would take as long or longer than developing it yourself... and even then there will be bugs and problems all over its code, and

Two, it is useful... for small tasks or for explaining how to use another system (like Azure).

If I recall correctly the learning cycle data input for ChatGPT ended sometime last year.

Please explain, in layman's terms, the meaning of that statement.

Specifically: Are you claiming that ChatGPT is no longer able to gather new data / expand its data base?

But isn't it doing that every time someone tells it something new?! Isn't ChatGPT continuing to "learn?!"

Curiosity (that's why I asked the question). And to share will others who might be curious.

When I asked the question, I was curious if ChatGPT would ask me a question, like "For what state?"

I posted it for Freepers like myself who are curious. And also for people like yourself who enjoy looking for spelling and word usage errors. We don't know if ChatGPT is a good speeler yet. Here's your chance to find out.;-)

Curiosity (that's why I asked the question).

Oh, alright!

I had inferred that you were trying to say that the results of your inquiry were especially... revealing... rather than being so "ho-hum."

When I asked the question, I was curious if ChatGPT would ask me a question, like "For what state?"

It would, indeed, have been interesting if ChatGPT had asked that: It would have shown initiative.

Imagine if it had instead replied: "I know that you have a somewhat sarcastic bent, so would you like me to include any devious provisions?"

Like in that famous VW commercials from the 1970s: "And to my nephew Ralph, who was always spending money like there was no tomorrow, I bequeath $1 - and a calendar."

Ha ha. Yep. I'll have to admit that using an AI chatbot makes me a little nervous for the point you mention. I'm afraid it's going to try to start a conversation.

Hope you have a great Easter Day!
