This is a South Korean University so maybe there might be something there—then again.

If batteries can be extended ten fold and more—but lets just say 10x current capacity...imagine the distance one could get with personal automobiles between chargings. If the range is 200 miles for sake of argument, would it jump to 2000? Lets be conservative and say 1200 miles instead. That would be revolutionary. The same sized battery with its power life extended.

Same could be said for storing energy for home use. A Tesla battery pack lasts nearly a week IIRC under normal household use. Imagine that extended to say a month in the same package?

I totally disagree with the top down approach that has been ham fisted upon us. I also believe that the ICE is with us for years to come and that our nation needs to continue to develop its energy production.

But two things will contribute to the advancement of man—harnessing the power of the stars (think Sun), and getting off and living off the planet. When man achieves those two goals, we as a species will continue on as a species.

Do I believe that there is Climate Change—of course I do—for the last 10,000 years or so we have been at the warmest we have been in the last 100,000 years...so climate does change. We as humans have little control over trans global climate change. Regionally yes—with pollution, etc, but not world wide climate change brought about by the cyclical nature of the Sun.

Anyway, I hope this battery power/life entension pans out. It would be a rfemarkable breakthough. And remember, once a discovery like this pans out—others will also come to the fore...a sort of synergistic efffect. A new wave of technologies will pop up hopefully for the betterment of mankind.

Yeah, I’ve been associated with a U.S. National Laboratory and they’ve got ‘brilliant’ researchers (almost all Chinese ancestry) working balls to the wall on battery chemistry. But so far, just incremental improvements, no breakthroughs.

Unless we as a nation are prepared to push 2 and 3 phase power to the house, there is no way that current electrical grid / architecture will support the migration of the automobiles to use electricity.

Also, the cost of electricity has drastically increased. In 1980, the price of electricity for the US average went from 0.06 ish to now 0.16. More than doubling in 40 years. but it should be noted that for the first 30 years (1980 to 2010). The price roughly doubled (2% ish) from 0.06 to 0.12. In the last 10 years (2010 to 2020) the price went up from 0.12 to 0.16

Further some states (Colorado as an example) have gone to time of day pricing and the current high use time (15:00 to 19:00) has a rate of 0.29

The cost of electricity is making a less viable alternative. Cheaper gas makes the EV equation not work. That is one of the several reasons that the left does not want Trump back in power.

Compare a 2023 Ford Mustang (automatic transmission vs MACH E 4wda). Set the gas price to $2.50 per gallon and the electricity price to 0.29 (from above). 24 miles for both.
The way this works is the left pushes artificial shortages on the gas/diesel supply to artificially.

Check out what happens if the left gets the price of fuel to $4.00 per gallon. Even if you use the national average of electricity cost (0.16) it looks like a better option. 24 miles for gas and 69 miles for EV. But that price does not factor in the environmental costs of the electrical vehicle. If you keep the same average cost of electricity but plug in cheap gas (1.50 / gal) then the advantage to EV is only 2 additional miles.

Got to keep Trump out of office. Can’t have cheap fuel because then Americans wont switch to EVs

Battery tech is far better than in the late 19th and early twentieth century. It’s possible to buy an EV with a range comparable to a common midsized sedan but you will pay an astronomical price. A Lucid dream compares favorably on range to a Camry or Altima but at maybe three times the price.

The crossover market fetish undermines fuel efficiency in both ICE and BEV. Crossovers won’t compete with sedans because of weight and wind resistance but almost no one is making daily driver cars now. If you need to tow, forget BEV.

A BEV issue is electronics fail, they don’t wear out over time like mechanical parts. It’s unlikely BEV will be long life vehicles because there won’t be after market parts and repair will be expensive. Electrical issues are very difficult to diagnose.

Trump was right to point out the critical importance of affordable vehicles. We need them here in America. They represent freedom, autonomy, independence and self reliance. Can’t all get by riding buses, trains or subways. Dependence on Lyft or Uber is cost prohibitive.

Or the mobile nuclear reactor charges tour house/car once a month. Well then it might make more sense to install a small modular reactor every so far.

I am no EV fan.

However charging time is about the only thing that’s improving with EVs. If they can handle a high rate of charge it might not take as long as you’d think

That said getting that high rate to a charging station will be challenging
