That this story broke in 1977 shows how the truth gets buried. This article should have led to serious electoral reform. Instead, move on, nothing to see here.

What is often forgotten about the Box 13 story is that Johnson stole the election from another Democrat who had stolen the previous election from Lyndon Johnson in a similar manner.
Johnson took that defeat as a lesson and vowed never to let it happen again. The Box 13 votes were held back until the other candidates votes had been counted and then the Box 13 votes, stuffed with enough votes to win were “found” and counted.
Some things never change.

I remember two of my uncles in Nam and how happy the whole family was when Nixon brought them home.
Oddly, at the time, all of us but my Nixon worshiping step grandfather were old style Dems.
They voted for JFK but detested LBJ.
