“You have to role-play these incidents in your head so you don’t do stupid stuff.”

I very much agree.

“Don’t confront anyone who has stolen your gun...”

I suggest to everyone that there is a reasonable alternative, namely in learning what one must do and not do when fighting with someone who has taken your gun. Many police officers with retention holsters are nevertheless shot with their own guns every year, including those trained in weapon retention.

Weapon retention is a Deadly Force Encounter and you might lose. The possibility of defeat is not a part of the decision to fight, but it does inform skills training and tactics. The Dunkin customer was just and correct in trying to remedy a terrible situation whether he was responsible for it or not. I do not know that he made any mistake, the article is sketchy and not written from a competent self defense perspective. The conclusion that he must have done something wrong or made some mistake is an unproved assumption. He proved however his courage with his very life.

This is a “molon labe” situation. Nifster, when the jackboot thugs from the government knock on your door to take your guns will you surrender? Have you already surrendered in your heart and now you are comfortable with telling others to do the same?
