😁👍. Reedy creek was a scam from the start.
I was living in Florida when Disney moved in and some of us knew then the reedy Creek deal was a complete sellout by the state. Smelled heavily of corruption. Big damn surprise.
of course it was, and it's overdue to reverse it.
I mean maybe, but the fact was that those of tens of thousands of acres had next to no infrastructure. I don’t criticize the initial decision to form the district.
I like this article, and the author at least takes a run at being even-handed. My favorite part is saying that “Don’t Say Gay” was a “nickname” for the bill Nickname? Like when we call Peter “Petey,” but we know that’s not really his name? I don’t recall “Don’t Say Gay” being presented as a nickname at the time
“as the Republican governor punishes Disney over its opposition to the nicknamed “Don’t Say Gay” law.“
Another sterling example of journalism
Saw a documentary some years ago about the at the time mayor and city commissioners decision to convince DW to come to Florida.
They gave away the farm to get them here in many different ways.
The documentary went on to interview every commissioner still alive that had a vote......every one of ‘em unanimously stated that if they had it to do all over again there’s no way they would have voted to bring disney here.
I’m old enough to remember the Orlando area before DW.......it was a beautiful sleepy little town full of orange groves.
These days I can’t remember the last time I’ve been on I-4 much less visited O-town.
Infantile propagandists.
Old Orlando and FL was lovely place to live .
Its a living nightmare full of illegals and Visas invaders and half of India .
And yankees 😏
Reedy Creek, like the grounds of DW, has the appearance of being beautifully run. Republicans say, “let private business run things.” This will be “let government run things.” Be careful what you wish for. There are bigger fish to fry in Florida than the physical grounds, fire department...of DW.
We moved to Florida in 1965 literally months after I-4 was completed through orlando. Florida was a beautiful place in those days. It was a great place to be of high school age.
I did a road trip to Florida in 2012 to visit some friends. Someone transported from 1965 to the present in Central Florida would have a difficult time even realizing they were in the same geographic location.
During the years in which I lived in Florida it was Non-Stop local governments selling out to developers in a dozen different ways, most of them either unethical or illegal. And pretty much wrecking the quality of life all the way along with their little deals.
A few years ago I said to my wife how much money would someone have to pay me to make it worth us moving to Florida? She replied enough for you to fly home every weekend because I’m not living there.
Still a desirable place to be especially considering all that’s going on right now ......just like most other states you just have to be careful where you live.
Parts of the panhandle and the Sebring area come to mind.
We almost moved to Palm Coast in 2020......I regret not pulling the trigger.
This one is by someone you approve of, next time, you might be sorry.
What he's trying to reverse was all approved by elected representatives before he was born.
What some of them still alive say about it now means absolutely nothing.
If Disney is doing something illegal that's one thing.
Being vindictive is not good policy and often backfires.
“And yankees 😏”
And ignorant Floridians.
you’re using left wing tactics posting second hand information...
Some years ago, the Disney Corporation wanted to build an American History themed place near Haymarket VA. The shouts of “not only ‘NO’ but ‘HELL NO’” shook the heavens.
It didn’t happen.
Can you imagine their take on Colonial and 19th Century America? It would be hideous.
Among other plums, Disney gave a managerial level job to the son of Hayden Burns, the Democrat Governor at the time.
