Traveling around Italy by train I'm always amazed at how many places are named Sottopassaggio. Every train station seems to have one nearby.Isn't that just the word for "underpass", which would naturally be found near a train station or roadways? Or are you saying it is the name of a town?

Yes, it means underpass. Many train stations make you use an underpass to get from your train to the station. There are exceptions (Rome, Trieste, Milano Centrale). I was just joking.
