With a side-trip to Alpharetta. But, still, lots of going in circles, I’m assuming.

Still quite a stretch. Even in the Smokies, I’m sure it walked all over, every day, just going about its business. They can say the bear walked 2,000 miles, or whatever fake news they want.

Or possibly relocated to Yellowstone or Yosemite where it would have more than 500 miles to get back . . .
500 miles is really not that much for a bear.

Well since she was already in east TN, visiting Georgia and South Carolina, before going home, just made sense.

A few years back I had an encounter with a black bear in the Smokey Mountains. It just stood on the trail watching me. It didn’t leave the trail until some other hikers came up behind it on the trail. I mentioned it to the rangers and they got exact location of where it happened. They try to keep an eye on bears that could end up being a problem.

The article excerpts actually point that out; that it’s about 150 miles normally, but she took “the long way home”, which ended up going thru multiple states, to be about 1,000 miles.

The average range of A bear can be a hundred miles. They didn’t move her far enough.

They have been relocating them in Fannin County Georgia for years and Years. I call them Marshmellow eaters. There is one close to our place now that will go over 500 lbs unless somebody shot him. All the neighbors have pictures of him eating their garbage.

Relocated them TO Fannin County.

Most relocated bears don't fare as well as 609, researchers have found. "The outcome really isn't that good. You know, some of the preliminary data is suggesting the majority of those bears are dying in some form or fashion within four months. Whether it's vehicle collisions, additional conflict, hunter-killed, and things of that nature," Stiver said.
And this is a problem because...?

“Wild bears who learn to look to humans for food should be put down”
They only look to humans because of human stupidity / hand outs in most cases. A life in a well run preserve is more deserving than a round through the head. My two cents.
