The Bible DID NOT define a cubit in terms that relate to our measuring systems. The Bible specified the dimensions in WHATEVER UNITS Noah used. Do you not understand that the numbers are meaningless TO US unless we have the standard? Noah knew what HIS cubit was, but we don’t.

Had you read the entire thread, you would have seen that my issue is with text that reads "exactly 300 cubits". If one wants to write a scientific-like article it is unwise to claim exact compliance with a unit of measure that varies according to individual people. I know of no credible association of anybody's cubit to modern measurement systems. The claim that some Egyptian unit is accurately known is not well substantiated and the notion that Noah used the Egyptian unit is preposterous.

The author would seem more credible if he used language that took the lack of precision of a cubit into account.

It's irrelevant what the article says. What's relevant is what the account in Genesis records. It notes 300 cubits is the length. I'm good with that.

I'd be more interested in Noah's tools and construction methods. Expecting the wreck to survive this long is unusual. Like other posters said, it was probably salvaged and repurposed.

You don't seem to understand the fallacy of "exactly 300 cubits" when a cubit varies from person to person.

When Noah built the boat, they used his cubit. The actual length of that is not preserved in any manner. But since the entire thing was built in accordance with the same measurement base, all parts were proportionally made and they fit together.

It is the claim that we know the length of Noah's arm from his elbow to the tip of his middle finger that I find suspicious. That length was not preserved in any form.

It is fine with me if you want to believe otherwise. One way or another, none of this makes any difference.

I do, in fact, take Genesis with a grain of salt. The Bible was not intended to be a Technical Manual of the Universe, and it was not authored when people could understand it if it had been.

The excerpt I was taking issue over did not come from the article upon which the thread was based, but it did come from another over-zealous article regarding the same subject. The Ark has been found quite often, but always in a different spot. That is to say the Ark has not been found and it never will be.

The Scans prove otherwise. It’s Noah’s Ark. Shaped like a boat, timbers, 3 levels, giant ballast stones in the vicinity. It’s there, cubits and all.

Nooooooooooooooo, but they had an EGYPTIAN measurment of a cubit, that Moses used (he was raised in EGYPT, and that was the standard of measurement they used, IN EGYPT). Did God tell Noah what a cubit was? Who knows? And I’m just guessing that the measurement of Noah’s elbow to finger was far longer than 20.6 inches. (much taller and lived much longer than humans after the flood to this day)

The point is that God told MOSES that the ark was 300 cubits long. And Moses would have certainly known how long an EGYPTIAN CUBIT was, because Moses grew up, and was educated, IN EGYPT.
