I was born in Pasadena, Texas - went to the San Jacinto monument, and the USS Texas over 100 times at minimum.
If you’ve never been a sailor, you should visit her, or the Lexington in Corpus Christi and appreciate what our fore fathers survived to give us a life.
If you are a sailor, visit anyway, because the Texas will never give up.
The Texas is the last floating dreadnaught in the world.
Period.
She survived WWI, and WWII. Earning MANY battle E’s in her duty.
I finally toured the USS Alabama last year. I was impressed by her size but also by the small offices and areas for operations. Real respect for those that served on her.
Update for the Texans (and others) who care about these old ships.
Very nice! They’ve gotten pretty far into the project, more than I expected.
