I don’t think it’s crazy. They agreed to something at that meeting and the deep state knew it would be bad for them. I recall they had a two hour meeting with only interpreters present, and the democrats did everything they could to try to get the interpreters to testify before Congress about what was said at that meeting. Their excuse was a continuation of their theme at the time - that President Trump was a Russian pawn and it was a matter of national security that they know what was discussed. Nothing came of the democrat demands, but the secrecy of the meeting strongly suggests that they weren’t talking sports.
I don’t know if Griner in particular was chosen (seems unlikely so far in advance) or was just the first prominent American to break a Russian law at the right time in the op.

This is a way too over simplified. The FBI broke into Trump's safe (warrant?) They seized whatever they wanted on the premises.
Watch for the NYT and Maggie Haberman to start publishing all sorts of strange stories that will have everyone scratching their heads.
Whatever gets published or 'leaked', Trump should deny and sue. In order to defend themselves they would have to admit to breaking the law.

All I can say is the FBI better have the goods. This better be a slam dunk criminal case, otherwise the Biden Administration and DoJ have crossed a line of no return.
