When this crap happens they need to identify the stupid executive that made this decision.
It’s like that idiot at Ryanair I believe who decided to charge one euro for using the toilet in the airplane.
The only way to stop this idiocy is that identify these guys publicly and put them to the shame they deserve.
How long will it be before some enterprising college kid hacks the car and provides a work-around for the software block?
If you don’t pay will the seat police come and visit you?
This is weird. I know two guys who learned map reading in the Army. I did, too. They do not hesitate to punch in an address in their newer car’s display and follow it’s directions. They love it. I tried it once in a rental and I didn’t care for it.
Personally, I find it kinda fun to dig out or look up maps and plan my route. I put together a rough map with a couple crib notes and off I go in my rattletrap.
I develop a spatial sense for where I’m going so I know not only how to get there, but “where I am” in a real sense the whole time. This helps me when I return home, too.
I lose that spatial awareness when I really on a car’s GPS display and I do not like that feeling. But I get a sense that’s where the elites and manufacturers want us to be. Reliant on their directions and not worrying nor caring “where we really are.”
Will there be a charge for making out in the backseat? Asking for a friend

Holy cow here’s another guy playing on a girls’ team.
Regarding the article, I feel so informed learning that she was wearing the Nirvana T-shirt.
Your car is not your car?
All the more reason I still drive my 2000 Civic, not an iPhone on wheels.
“Standardized production runs, and then turn on or off “options” that all were installed with in production.
Sounds sleazy to me.”
Very sleazy. IBM once rented all of their data processing equipment — you couldn’t buy it. There was a lawsuit or something and they were forced to sell the equipment.
There’s something about ownership that good for individuals and society.
In the case of cars, rentable options can probably be turned on and off over the internet.
In the case of BMW’s idea, might be a good time to buy stock in 12-volt heating pad companies.
You stop paying they take your seats , then do they give you regular seats ? Like Banks nickel-and-dime you with fees now car companies want in
Started with “software as a service”. BMW is just a lead indicator. All manufacturers will be doing this garbage. Old folks like me can drive our rent free cars till we die, but younger folks will eventually get caught up in this boondoggle.
Give away the razors, sell the blades.
Can’t wait until a 14 year old hacks into the car to give everyone heated seats. Can’t be that hard.
I have a 2007 BMW Z4 that's my play car. It has heated seats and I don't have to pay a subscription for them. I can absolutely assure any BMW executive reading this that I will never buy another BMW if I have to pay a monthly fee for the heated seats to work.
BMW: Butt More Warm.
Only $216 a year.
Jailbreaking cars will become mainstream.
Lol!
Only if you want to use the vibrator option. ;-)
Hi.
About 15 years ago I bought my first luxury automobile. An Infiniti G37 sedan. For me it was expensive, so I asked the dealer what were those two dials on the console for?
Seat heaters he said (steering wheel too).
I live in Florida and laughed. Dealer says get back with me in January or February.
I like my seat heaters, and with the Q 50, seat a/c.
5.56mm
Turn off the internet connectivity so that it can’t “phone home”, and have at it. Hack ALL the “pay per use” features.
I’d LOVE to work on this project. Yes, I’m qualified. ;-)
It’s really $72 per month.
$18 x 12 months = $216 / the 3 months you actually need heated seats = $72
