The city reported that there was only 2 feet of dirt beneath the stone and they are pretty sure it ended up being relocated there. That it definitely wasn’t a grave site. Cuyahoga Falls and the area generally does a very good job with their historical preservation. Pretty cool find. I’m looking forward to seeing it. They also stated that they are trying to find the original burial location to presumably return the headstone.

Developers have been known to dump human remains in creek beds when redevolping old cemeteries. When the cemetery is old enough, there is usually nothing remaining as the bones dissolve over the centuries. The headstones may be all that is left to indicate a body had been buried there. Also note that before burials and cemeteries got regulated, people were often just buried on a corner of the family farm.

When I lived there CF was an idyllic little suburb. I have great memories of my childhood there.
