They were heathen. Heathen is as heathen does.

I like the word heathen, but I am not one.

"If a passerby chose to take the child fine, if not animals ate the child.

" They had Democrats back then?

"which is accompanied by an app and a guide contextualizing the show for children"

Yep, we know what this is all about.

Romans 3:10
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one

Psalm 19
The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard

Numbers 26:10
And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died, what time the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men: and they became a sign.

Genesis 19
24 Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven;

Are you a pagan or neopagan?

Pagans have always included sexual acts in their religion.

I doubt it’s actually particular to pompeii. Pompeii is just better preserved thanks to its quick burial so not as much paint on the walls gets to flake off.

“In the ancient Roman world, sexual pleasure was a cause for celebration rather than a source of shame.”

Hence, their society collapsed.

Oh I doubt all of them were overjoyed at the raping, exploitation and molestation. The adultery and sexual politics and heartbreak. The unwanted pregnancies, unwanted children - the terrible power dynamic of bastard kids. The STDs. The jealousy.

That’s the Christian outlook. But it did not exist then. There was no shame in prostitution or taking part in an orgy, or, most commonly, in the fields at planting times.

Elimination happened in a dedicated but public space and no one paid it any mind. Morals as we see them today did not exist or were vastly different.

It was a morally depraved culture

At least they were having children at above replacement level back then. Unlike us.

Unwanted kids weren’t a problem, they were placed near woods. If a passerby chose to take the child fine, if not animals ate the child.

Sounds cruel, but not as bad as letting them run wild, in gangs, in today's ghettos.

But then in today's world, rather than placing them by the woods for the animals, we just use 'Planned Parenthood' and kill them early.

We know a lot of the details about that day because of Pliny the Younger whose historical letters describe his experience during the eruption while he was staying in the home of his Uncle, Pliny the Elder in a nearby town.

There is an excellent best seller novel that covers much of the detail you are asking about. “Pompeii” by Robert Harris. You can read about the book here:
