Good point! Zinc-air is an interesting tech for several reasons. Zinc-air, like gasoline engines uses the air as an oxidizer. Your car isn’t a bomb.

So if they can solve the poisoning of the electrolyte problem, this could be a viable alternative to methanol.

“The difference is “concentrations”. Oil is found about everywhere compared to Rare Earth minerals. Hence the label “Rare Earth”.”

This article talks about nickel, copper, lithium, and cobalt. Which of these would you classify as “rare earth”

I know a bit about Geology. Rare Earth cannot be found everywhere. Let alone affordable enough to mine and process where they are found. It is like diamonds. How many sites do we have in the states that produce diamonds? Like two, and they are junk diamonds. Like Gold, it is just not laying around everywhere.

Good point, whoever wrote this has no clue or knowledge of geology. They are trying to integrate and confuse two different classifications as one and the same. You are right, they are not.

But I was addressing the Rare Earth aspect of the article.

Nickel and copper deposits are readily available and not rare earth, but do take huge resources to mine. Lithium, and cobalt are indeed considered to be rare earth...

They aren’t actually very rare. There is more of both of them available for mining than common elements like lead and tin.

They are expensive because we haven’t needed them much until recently so a lot of new mines need to be created.

Best Post of the week, month IMHO.

Not only do children work in these mines in the Congo.
They dust from the open pit mines covers the landscape resulting in a much larger percentage of children born with birth defects.
Cleft palates and missing limbs were a primary example.

Go GREEN!

Which the BLM and the EPA will no let happen so here in the sates they are rare. No matter how many fish are in the water you can’t catch any if there is a no fishing sign. Makes fish from that pond pretty rare.

Ed Begley Jr. scammed a bunch of companies into donating their products to him so he could build a “environmentally friendly home” back in 2013. It is huge home with a pool...

Minnesota is mineral rich yet the democrats do everything they can to stop mining and cutting trees.

The term “rare earth” is a misnomer as rare earth metals are actually abundant in the Earth’s crust. However, they are rarely found in large, concentrated deposits on their own, but rather among other elements instead.

The key is although they are not rare, however as you said, they can only be found in certain areas which are economically conducive to mine.
