A merging lane that is head on?
To: Berlin_Freeper
No. A stop sign were the driver is essentially perpendicular to the highway.
The alignments are really ugly, but pulling away from that stop shouldn't be any different than from any other stop controlled intersection.
Sometimes people die because they don't realize it is only a two way stop. But here it looks like she thought she could beat the truck and maybe overestimated the ability of her vehicle to accelerate with the load it was carrying.

So now the semi driver has a fatal accident on his record - and in his memories- because a young and very inexperienced girl couldn’t drive properly.
Sorry they died so violently. And stupidly.

In this aerial you can see where their approach turns perpinduclar to the highway when it comes to the limit line.

I get angry at drivers that pull that "rolling stop" nonsense. There are several four way stops in our residential area. I'll blast my horn when a driver doesn't bother to make a full stop.
Every now and then, but not often enough, local police are out enforcing the laws. I'll usually park and go thank them for performing this duty.
Driving in DFW gets more haszardous with each passing day. Inattentive drivers are part of the problem, overly aggressive drivers exacerbate the problem.

It looks to me like someone needs to reconfigure this section of intersecting roads.

There but for the grace of God, go I.
When I was a kid, I drove like a real moron. It’s a wonder I didn’t kill anybody or myself.

I have a teenage daughter. These type of stories exceptionally troubling on a few levels. Truly praying for the families.

Many schools have stopped that practice.

Don’t know about Oklahoma, but here’s the Maryland law: “Minor drivers are restricted about who they can have with them in automobiles. If you are under the age of 18 and have a provisional license, you may not drive a car with passengers under the age of 18 for the first 5 months (151 days) of having that license. “

No one is going to sue the driver’s family. It would be unthinkable.

After working with my pal the excavator and riding with him in his fully loaded dump truck, I'm an advocate of drivers training including at least half a day in the cab of a loaded semi or dump truck.
Youth especially doesn't understand those rigs simply cannot stop on a dime, like their own vehicles sometimes can.
