Loads of these Roman-era statues were rendered into lime mortar, bit by bit; could be the renderer saved this bit for last, then just didn’t want to do it. ;^)

Zadar is one of the coastal cities of Dalmatia which was never captured by the Turks. (It was captured by the Crusaders of the Fourth Crusade in 1202 and was bombed during WWII by the Allies.) Georg von Trapp was born in Zadar.

They have a very nice archaeological museum in Zadar so that is the logical place for this statue to be exhibited.
