That must have been considered either the most important part, or the prettiest part, of her.
I surely can’t disagree.

Loads of these Roman-era statues were rendered into lime mortar, bit by bit; could be the renderer saved this bit for last, then just didn’t want to do it. ;^)

I never knew that. What a staggering loss.
It looks like the torso is on a slag heap.

Probably in much the same way that a signifigant portion of the colosseum now resides in Rome’s many churches.

Most likely smashed by early Christians who disfigured countless statutes, mosaics, wall paintings etc.

The ancient texts on this are quite clear: Venus was a babe.

That would be a great piece of art to display in lighted glass case in the hotel lobby.

Daniel 2:32 The head of the statue was pure gold, its chest and arms were silver, its belly and thighs were bronze, 33its legs were iron, and its feet were part iron and part clay.…
Daniel 2..
Belly and thighs- bronze..
Interesting that this remnant has one of the segments/parts that is described in a famous statue in Daniel..

Zadar is one of the coastal cities of Dalmatia which was never captured by the Turks. (It was captured by the Crusaders of the Fourth Crusade in 1202 and was bombed during WWII by the Allies.) Georg von Trapp was born in Zadar.
They have a very nice archaeological museum in Zadar so that is the logical place for this statue to be exhibited.
