Some libs are blaming Gov.-elect Glenn Youngkin for the ongoing humanitarian crisis on I-95 in northern Virginia. Who wants to tell them?

Why didn’t they just stay home or hunker down where they were? Did they have supplies and warm clothing and blankets in their cars? Did they have food and water with them? Do they have SNOW TIRES on their cars?WHAT? You expect Americans to take care of themselves? How silly of you!

We usually use what’s called ice melt, which is calcium chloride.
And we have very little concrete. Our driveway is gravel. Sort of.

LOL.
I think most Virginians understand that the blackface baby killer governor is not out of office, yet.

I have lived here in the deep South all my life. It’s interesting to hear you all discuss salt on roads. I have zero experience with such.
The only time I have ever used rock salt is to make ice cream in the Summer.

Unfortunately lib tactics mostly do what they are intended to do.

I'd never heard of "Ice Slicer" before. I found their web site and you can buy it in bags and containers for residential use. Crack's me up they advertise it as "Nature's Blend." Click the pic to buy some...

I've used regular rock salt, but it terribly spalls our concrete driveway. A couple years ago, I bought magnesium chloride but the damn stuff liquifies during the summer months and leaks out of the bag making one heck of a mess.

Always read the label.
A lot of stuff labeled ‘Ice Melt’ is a mixture of calcium Chloride and regular rock salt.
The mixture works at lower temperatures because of the Calcium Chloride and is cheaper than pure calcium chloride.
The salt will also do damage to your gravel driveway by breaking up the larger stones into smaller stones.
But of course you won’t notice.

Northam is still governor until January 15. Some dickweed on the DM commented that ‘there’s a republican governor’, what can you expect?

Yep, sand/salt mix is the normal follow-up here after the snow falls. I haven’t heard anything about why it wasn’t done. I have heard reports of plows and spreaders sitting idle, possibly waiting for taskings and not getting them.

In my 30 years in public service as a PW Director, we didn’t run plows until we got 3 inches on the ground, which is standard procedure nationwide. Then you get into the argument do you wait until after the snow stops before you plow?

Oops. Sorry. Article I read was from Nov. I will be more careful. Thanks for letting me know.

It’s not just Libs, A few years ago when this happened in Atlanta I mentioned on a post I carried such supplies in my car in the winter and a at least a couple of Freepers replied in disbelief that I would

At every exit on I -95 there are nearby government schools with nice warm gyms, cafeterias, and restrooms. Add to the list the many churches. Why aren’t these people being evacuated to these safe places?
