Confessions are big with the KGB, as they were with the Gestapo. Why are fascists so determined to make people confess?

They were central to Mao’s Cultural Revolution, and to all dictatorships. Fascists, communists all love a good show trial. They are currently big in the CCP’s China.

Confessions (usually false and written by Party apparatchiks) make it easier to enforce whatever edicts the Leadership comes up with, serve as a marker others do not want to cross into, and grants more power and control to the Central Authority over its people.

Does the letter denouncing President Trump end with, "I ask only that Comrade Biden may order that I be executed quickly, so that I can die while my mind is still free from this infection!"
