“... in lieu of any charges filed...”
What charges would have been filed against whom if they had not agreed to sleep the night off separately?
Cops are conditioned to blame the man first in almost any domestic violence situation. A man under questioning by police in such circumstances is often questioned in a manner similar to that used with a hostile witness. The catch is that if he give no response, after being separately questioned, the girl’s response no matter how outlandish it might be might be used as justification for an arrest for domestic abuse against the woman almost irrespective of how improbable the woman’s story might be. Effectively the guy is compelled to answer accusatory questions regardless of his 5A rights without a lawyer present. He’d better come up with some convincing answers. The cops don’t want to be on the hook for letting a potential male domestic abuse perp get off the hook. The cops also don’t want to appear in court defending themselves against charges of a false arrest against a woman domestic abuse perp, even though statistics are iirc 50-50 m/f DA perps. So, Apparently the bf was very convincing to the Utah police at the time. That implies to me that against the real life odds, it was gabby who was on the verge of being arrested and not the bf.
Note just my impressions but I think it’s reasonable inference. The cops could have arrested gabby on possibly several charges. Interfering with a driver while driving a vehicle on the road? Assault and battery against a driver? Attempting to drive while under influence of drugs? Etc. cops don’t want messy long court cases. Courts can be notoriously woman friendly.
When we hear “domestic violence” what is the first image that instinctively comes to our minds? A man hitting a woman, or a woman hitting a man?
Because if is the former, then we are prejudiced.
> Then why not just say that?
I because it could potentially be used in a derogatory manner along with other circumstantial evidence by a DA or a civil injury damages lawyer against a person who is in fact innocent?
(Hence the justification for the existence of 5A?)
Do we know if the text in question after the Utah time period was from Yosemite? Are we sure the couple was int he samne bar with the lesbian couple? Gabby appears to be the one with psychological anomalies? Wouls that include being attracted to a lesbian newly wed couple? Do we know if Gabby and BRain stayed at the same camp ground? How were the lesbian murder victims found and where were the shots that killed them evidenced on their bodies (head, chest, back, front, how many bullets)? Caliber is important too, so did / does the BF own a gun?
What if the bf is actually innocent, the cops are laying some kind of trap, and both the bf and gabby s parents are in fact just acting, and the Yosemite text is part of the police ruse?
Going further might conceivably unravel the ruse if a ruse is being used but at least it seems possible and explains some behavior that is otherwise seemingly contradictory.
Not really.
Laundrie told police he and Petito both suffered from a mental condition and that neither take medication, the report said.

Thanks for the data points and the link.
You’re welcome.
I have neither. ;-)
Exactly. Imho all good questions and ones which ordinarily deserve answers.
True confession time, my computer has been down for several days while under repair and all I have at the moment is a deranged cell phone with autocorrect, so I may not have all the answers that are publicly available somewhere else (however someone else here might!)
As to whether gabby would be attracted towards the lesbian couple, imho that is a good point to consider. I’m not certain I could give any usefully accurate answer especially since I am cis-male (and even then I am probably using a wing term to describe myself lol). However a cis-female lesbian or psych major out there might know.
Ok let’s say I am a gf who just broke up with her bf while on a road trip. And I have OCD or some other similar DSM-V disorder. I’m in the boonies at the time. Who would I be more likely to trust, a single male, a cis-gender couple, or a lesbian couple, or single woman? Hmmm... the lesbian couple seems like a fairly good bet to me. And given that it might be in Utah, ...
I don’t know what the ‘cis’ prefix denotes.
I’ll keep looking...
But you do still have frogs in the basement, right?

Gun ownership-
Who knows the legality of car camping across the country and back for several weeks with a handgun? Off hand I would guess that it is not legal.
Without looking, I would guess that it is illegal inside national parks and some state parks. An OCD person would probably know this and also probably be aware of a packed and stored handgun if ine was in the van.
Imho the Utah cops would have asked if there was a gun in the car. If they got a yes, they would imho have hauled everyone into town and a detox tank while they searched the vehicle, and then possibly confiscated the gun on a pretext.

Apparently handgun transport is allowed in Utah if not otherwise prohibited locally so long as the handgun is not loaded. Also, a drivier is not required to answer if asked if driver has a handgun on board. This does not prevent a cop from asking and also chances seem good imho that a random non ocd couple would be fully aware of their Utah gun rights. Do we know the bfs mental disorder? If it is ocd then maybe they are both aware they don’t need to answer inappropriate cop questions (although if only one had ocd and they are questioned separately, chances imho increase that one would have spilled the beans if they did have something).
The cops have probably checked the bfs gun purchases by now and would have taken some action against him if they had a caliber lineup or something similar which they could get a warrant for, maybe with fbi legal help. A gun lawyer might have more comment.)
If I had to guess, it seems unlikely given what is publicly disclosed so far that they had brought a handgun with them. However it’s been 40 years since I have been car camping on that degree and It never actually occurred to me to carry back then.
Cis-
Prefix, derived from cis, Latin adjective meaning on this side
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/cis#etymology
Examples
Cislunar
Cisgender (first usage apparently circa 1994)
My informal understanding of the prefix is that it means something along the lines of inherent to the natura of the thing or person being described)
(This a cisgender might potentially be construed as the opposite of gay).
(I am no expert in any of this, just trying to keep up with the times)
Bf Laundrie was allegedly given a hotel room- by whom? By The police? Or by gabby?
Videocam footage contains evidence of domestic assault- meaning gabby on laundries assault?
Hence a police sponsored hotel room for laundrie? In Moab?
Nope. Occam's says if he did the lesbians, she was involved enough to leave him second thoughts, given she likely could not stop talking about it (OCD: "What if? What if?"). And then the irony kicks in -- IF he did the lesbians, then the alphabets will DNA him and convict him from that crime scene, and Gabby may never be vindicated. That happens more than anyone should prefer with even small-time serial killers.
