Cool! thanks for the history link. That’s from when they started the store chain. Had been a one-location dairy before that for over a century.
We also have some Sheetz’s around here, and their territories overlap in some places. Wish I had a link to a story done by (I think) the Wasington Post about ten years ago comparing the two chains, customer experiences, “you are there” journalism,. etc. Good story. Thousands of words later, Wawa edged out!
My favorite Italian hoagies, even though I'm in South Philly all the time. I order mine on the screen with mayonnaise and a little oil. Been avoiding them since last October. No coincidence that I've lost 45 lbs.
The really cool part is they both started out as mom and pop dairy stores, specialty stores. As the times changed they changed with them so the names didn’t disappear from the landscape.
I don’t know about WaWa but Sheetz has expansion down to a fine art. From the day the foundation is laid they have a store up and running in 30 days. They don’t tolerate contractor delays. They have pre-ordered EVERYTHING well in advance and have each contractor lined up with firm dates.
If you are one of their contractors and you have a delay on another job, you drop the delayed job to do the Sheetz job on time.
I thought the speed they work at is pretty amazing.
Wow, LOL! So THAT's why I was a size 4 when I went to live in S. Philly, and a size 12 when I left!
Interesting! I’ve noticed that with house flipper shows, too—time is definitely money when the house is not to live in, but to sell and make profit.
We have some Sheetz’s pretty far out in central Maryland from us. Luckily for me, since Wawa is my favorite, when we moved away from a Wawa area, we moved into another Wawa area!
Most of the house flippers are working with the banks money.
They have an open line of credit and agree to a cash price with the owner. They grab the money from the bank and it’s usually counted as a 90 day loan. If they can flip the house before the loan is due they make more money.
My son just bought a house and he said bidding against the flippers is tough because even if your loan is pre-approved for $XXX,000 dollars it still takes time for the bank to do it’s paperwork to release the money. The flippers have cash on hand.
