Why kill a skunk? I live in NY. We have LOTS of skunks. Never hunted one. Don’t know anyone that did.
Cars keep the skunk population down. Never known to be a nuisance.

Sounds like you’ve never had them in your backyard living under your deck.
They stink and love to dig under fences. And then there’s rabies....
I used a live trap and released the first couple i caught. Now i cover the trap with a big plastic bin and gas (gopher gassers) the damn things. The last one i caught was tough. Gassed it three times and was sure it was dead. Somehow it survived and dug it’s way under the bin and escaped. I think it either crawled off somewhere and died or was so traumatized it never came back.
City Animal Control Department was useless. They sent a teenage girl with no PPE to get it and she ended up getting sprayed in the eyes. If i lived in the country i would shoot the skunks.
