My son at 28 years, was equally taken by surprise when he experienced a severe stomach pain. He went to the Urgent Care because he had no primary care doctor. He was diagnosed with an appendectomy and rushed to surgery for emergency surgery. Since he avoided signing up for Obamacare, he faced a $75,000 medical bill. Fortunately, the state picked up the full cost.

Who do you think were being assholes other than the odious Mrs. Smith? That thread of terart’s was a real heartbreaker. I imagine if I’d seen it at the time I could have sent her the link to the directory of monoclonal antibody infusion centers in her area and told her how President Trump had said they made him better “immediately” and “like a miracle” and had also recently worked a charm for three of my family members who had recently come down with Covid. So it really tore me up when I saw it too late. Maybe I could not have convinced to hurry up and get MABs, but I’ll always wonder...

If only she had followed the advice from those who told her to go straight to the ER at the beginning, she could have been saved — as it turned out, a MABs infusion center was at the ER of the “hospital right [her]” as she later posted — but by the time she finally went there it was too late for MABs. That poor, poor lady! Her PCP really let her down — why didn’t he send her straight to get MABs?

Well...where to start. I'm in the Hosp. Biz. We did NOT kill thousands with Vent's.

If they needed and/or wanted a Vent. They got one.

We have things we look at...ABG's/VBG's...that tell us are they ventilating are they oxygenating?....What is their WOB if they are not acidotic.

I had pts's that did not want to be on a vent....but near the end they begged us to intubate and place them on a vent.

I saw a lot of death...and in a small rural Hosp. too.

But I NEVER saw anyone tubed..and placed on a vent that did not want it.

Ummmm...I was offered the Monoclonal Antibodies...from stock symbol REGN. After coding a pt. for nearly an hour.

I declined...

I declined the VAX too......Plenty of co-workers took the VAX...and plenty of them have had the COVID again..and again.

I'm fine....maybe I'm immune. I do not know....I test every time I go to work...and test negative.

A friend of mine was put on a vent in January 2021.

He appeared to have contracted Covid at a family Christmas party. He was being treated at home until his oxygen fell dramatically, like the low 80s

From what I heard when he was first admitted to the hospital he was just given oxygen, but his O2 continued to fall and he was vented.

Toward the end of his stay he experienced acute kidney injury and when they attempted dialysis his BP would spike. He lasted about three days. The AKI was just too much. It may have been caused by the cytokine storm that accompanied severe cases of covid.

Sorry about your friend.

He appeared to have contracted Covid at a family Christmas party. He was being treated at home until his oxygen fell dramatically, like the low 80s

Low 80's mid 8o's might be ok with some ....if that is their norm. Obviously not in his case.

From what I heard when he was first admitted to the hospital he was just given oxygen, but his O2 continued to fall and he was vented.

I'm sure ABG's / VBG's were drawn,,, and numbers not good and they tubed him.

Toward the end of his stay he experienced acute kidney injury and when they attempted dialysis his BP would spike.

Not unusual..sorry to say.

.. He lasted about three days. The AKI was just too much. It may have been caused by the cytokine storm that accompanied severe cases of covid.

When we are elderly...doesn't take much to tip us over.

Again sorry to hear of it....I've seen too much over my career...

He was 65 and had always been a good athlete. He was still very physically strong, but he had two serious comorbidities for covid, he was diabetic and overweight. Taking insulin for the diabetes.

His wife caught it at the same time but she had a relatively mild case. Three of their eldlerly relatives who caught it at the same time also died.

I knew of another family here who lost a lot of members to covid all at the same time. I think it was six in their case. My friend and this other family were latino which had me wondering if they were more at risk for some reason. But I’ve never seen anything to indicate that that’s the case.
