The judge is an asshole and the employee was stupid for what he had done, apparently more than once.
If you are sick and report in as such, you stay home, period.
The employee contract rules for them, they get so many vacation and sick days per year. The sick days are paid time off. These were union rules, and the union was very protective of worker rights. Hard to fire them. As for me, I was in a management class under different rules with fewer perks - except for getting paid far more. When I worked extra hours (as I did every week) I didn't get any extra pay. The union workers got paid with cash for extra hours worked.
But was he wearing a mask?
