“Sure no problem “ is not being gracious; it is being dismissive, as in, “i did what i had to do ,now you may go away.”
You’re fooling yourself if you think that you are being gracious. So no problem you can do something else now. Bye bye.
Everyone’s internet warrior behind the keyboard. Thanks for the warning tough guy.
Well then this is just you being an ornery crank. It’s your problem. Not mine.
The discussion on politeness includes so much rudeness. Oh my!
If the expression is indeed a departure from etiquette, then the price one pays for that departure is that you cannot expect the accepted response. I am convinced that those who casually change the rules of etiquette do so because they
understand neither the what nor the why of it.
Just as you know that Webster’s Dictionary is a standard for adding vocabulary words, and the NY Times Manual of Style for grammar changes, you know there must be some similar standard for etiquette changes. I suggest in the absence of Miss Manners, Judith Martin, that everyone use me for this purpose. Do not fear the imposition upon me. I assure you it’s no problem.
Sometimes, it falls to me to stay after hours when a client comes late to pick up. I like it because the late fee is one dollar per minute, paid in cash to the worker. Got $45 the other day. They either will apologize and excuse, or will thank me profusely. I always say, “The dollar a minute is thanks (or apology) enough!”
