And I will most likely never fly again after flying half-way around the world about every two weeks to a month for years. You can have my seat to any place you want to go.
The problem with the Concorde was that it didn't carry enough passengers to keep seat prices somewhat reasonable, and had too much capacity for the limited number of people willing to pay high ticket prices for trips on the limited NY-London, and NY-Paris flights. Concorde was prohibited from operating supersonic over land, and didn't have the range for the Pacific.
If Boom Supersonic can deliver a 20-30 passenger aircraft that is able to operate supersonically over land, this will open up a lot of new routes for the ultra rich, and should be able to turn a profit. Especially the routes from Asia to Europe, or here in the U.S. from the East Coast to the Left Coast.
“This sounds like vaporware”
It is. I know these guys and they’ve missed every milestone so far.
“Too expensive to fly. Technology now allows supercruising..... flying over Mach1 without afterburners. Using afterburners uses fuel at a cosmic rate. The Concorde flew at a loss because it had to use afterburners.”
Nope. The Concorde used supercruise. The afterburners were added later when the weight increased to give it extra power on take off. After that it could super cruise.
“Is Boom an American company? Never heard of it.”
There are several tiny American companies playing with SST designs.
They had better hurry up. Elon is threatening to have the Starship and Superheavy ready for suborbital hops that could make the flight time from LA to London a lot closer to 1 hour. Makes this new plane sound not so super-fast in comparison.
Essentially, the few Concorde airliners that were built got virtually booed off the stage, as being “too loud”, for being highly temperamental, and virtually impossible to gain a real “return on investment”. Many airports strictly prohibited their landing or take off, and there was one spectacular instance where trash on the runway caused a great deal of grief.
Air France flight 4590 was taxiing into position for takeoff, when the pilot noticed something wrong with the two left engines, but no red lights were going on, and the takeoff proceeded. Only moments after takeoff, the aircraft crashed in Gonesse, a suburb of Paris, on July 25, 2000. The airplane went down in flames almost immediately after takeoff, killing all 109 people on board and 4 others on the ground. It was the first fatal crash of a Concorde in 24 years of regular passenger service.
Concorde service ended altogether in 2003.
Not a bad idea. By flying short distances at a high speed they might arrive before the diversity pilot has a chance to make a mistake. /s
Of course, it will probably require that the Boom Supersonic goes in Plaid Drive. Please fasten your safety belt.
Boom Supersonic
Bad choice of words
The irony is that it wasnt the planes fault. During takeoff it ran over a piece of metal that fell off another jet airliner on the runway during takeoff, ripped one of the tires on the Concorde causing it to puncture its fuel tank causing it to catch fire and crash into an apartment building killing everyone aboard.
Already bleeding money, they grounded the jetdue to age and that was that.
On a per-passenger-mile basis, a fully-loaded Boeing 787 is something like 14 times more efficient than a fully-loaded Concorde.
Braniff had a go with the Concord and it helped destroy that airline.
It struck a piece of metal on the runway during take off, burst into flames and crashed killing everyone onboard in 2000... hasn’t flown since.

I’ve been on several long haul flights in recent years...several 14 hour flights and one that was 15 hours 55 minutes (wheels up to wheels down). If I could pay the same fare and spend half the time in my seat I’d love it!
I figure it’s so they can respond to all the people with broken windows, “You can’t say we didn’t warn you.”
IIRC, the foreign object debris that caused the damage fell off a Continental jet that took off just ahead of the Concorde.
Continental DC-10 I believe.
United is buying Electric Airplanes, too? Pilot: 'Ladies and Gentlemen, we are going to crash because the charging system for the plane is defective. If you voted for Dems and RINOs, please stay on the plane, if you voted for America, we will pass out parachutes. Thank you... 😀
