untimely death at age 40
He was a drunk.
Assassination Bureau was his best work I think. We need one of those. How he was able to get into the head of these dogs was convincing-but true?

The short story “To Build a Fire” by Jack London has always haunted me, having been in similar circumstances but surviving.

Loved “ Call of the Wild” as a boy. Read it over and over again. I also remember enjoying a boys adventure story he wrote called, “Cruise of the Dazzler” about a boy that runs away to sea.

Still my favorite author (fiction anyway) after getting hooked on his work in my teens, mostly due to subject matter.

Okay, I can’t top that one.
My dog is named after the old doo-wop song, “Duke of Earl,” and the TV show, “My Name is Earl.” We call him “Duke,” but his registered name is “Duke of My Name is Earl.”

Would that be the First and Last Chance Saloon? It had business cards from hundreds of patrons pinned to the ceiling with thumb tacks and parts of the wooden building were from sailing ships.
