We had a cold weather event maybe 3 or 4 years ago that affected my company (which is actually a freaking government agency, but I digress). Anyway, we were short on generation and a bunch of gas CT generators and combined cycle plants failed to start. The cold weather had uncovered the weaknesses - our weaknesses.

We didn’t quit get into the rolling blackouts, but we entered the EEA level 2, which is one step before that stage. People were out in droves thawing out things, getting the generators on line.

The lesson was learned - winterize the combined cycle and gas turbine plants.

Incidentally, one of the utilities in our reliability region actually will start and run at minimum output, all or most of their gas turbines when extreme cold weather was imminent. A good, but maybe more expensive, way of dealing with cold-related issues.

Speculating, but It might have actually made sense to use some locally
generated (near the wellhead) power to help keep those wellheads from
freezing. (Along with some decent covers.) A good sized battery bank
could keep a well insulated 12 volt electric blanket running above
freezing for a week.

Keep that charged with wind or solar (or a natural gas electric generator!)
and only heat as needed. Monitor your well, and maybe come recharge
the batteries with a backup generator when nothing else works.

Perhaps this company can upgrade their new covers to low voltage
electric blanket versions.

Warming up, but not quite thawing out yet. My niece, a student in Austin, lost heat but was able to move into an apartment with friends nearby. Unfortunately, there have been so many burst pipes in Austin that the authorities have decided to shut down the water system. Now five young women are sharing a toilet that they can't flush. They still have power so they're trying to melt snow to be able to flush the toilet. She can't drive home to Houston and her father can't rescue her because the roads are shut down due to black ice and the resulting wreckage.

This storm will have repercussions for months and months.

I think that standards for weather-proofing plants are coming, rather than "guidelines". And, the gas well sites will have to winterize to deal with extreme weather. We may not see this extreme cold in Texas again for 100 years, or we might see it next winter. Best be prepared IMHO.

It's a wake up call to prepare for global cooling if the Sun doesn't wake up and make a few sunspots.

The implantation likely took place when Obama was still president in January of 2017. Obama wouldn't be in command of some operations neither would Trump. PD-51 put command in the hands of director of that agency. Remember when Trump was in office Obama would go too a country first and seem to make deals? Obama was likely running a shadow government over the Russian hoax.

Obama was likely working with those in command of those offices. Example Rex Tillerson as the head of the State department could've been reporting to Obama.

Which suggest Trump wasn't given the "keys" to the presidency until Tellerson was out and Pompeo was in-charge of the State department (Before April 2018.) About the time of Q?
