I do a 24hr food fast starting after dinner on Wednesday and ending Thursday night. I had to cheat a bit and continue drinking coffee because the headachs were just too much otherwise.

Love it. I’ve learned to really watch how much I eat. Not what I eat... Just how much.

These studies drive me nuts. It’s like a straw man study. Dr. Fung’s hypothesis is that lowering insulin levels by IF and eating lower glycemic food will lead to weight loss and better health.

Why do a study that allows spiking insulin levels with unrestricted eating?

How about a study that shows the relationship between IF or keto and insulin levels?

Of course fasting works to lose weight - you will burn calories without taking any in. And if done discretely for spiritual reasons (as the Lord expected us to, as the Spirit leads) as a redeemed believer, then God will reward us openly. (Matthew 6:16-18) But there are different kinds of fasts, and lengths. Also, as with giving, God sees the heart and what you do relave to what you have. And what can be a easy fast for a 6'2'' 225lb man can be difficult for a person the same height but only 155 lbs.

However, as regards weight loss, while fasting will result in weight loss, to keep it off requires prayer and self-discipline. The Bible says "Blessed art thou, O land, when thy king is the son of nobles, and thy princes eat in due season, for strength, and not for drunkenness!' (Ecclesiastes 10:17) Meaning do not eat until you actually need to for energy, and never just because you are bored and or simply like the taste of food. Or, if possible, just because the clock says it's time. I know that this is difficult in families, so one should try to refrain from eating more than what is needed before the next meal time.

I am barely almost 69, and 5'5'' and about 135 lbs, which is about what I have stayed for decades, but I can gain weight easily, having kind of a slow thyroid (get cold easily) and feel hypoglycemic in the morning, and yes I do consume sugar (esp. hot chocolate). But I regularly eat fish or lean fowl or meat, and try to get some good greens, and avoid eating much of items with lots of fat calories. And I have usually kept very active, working and playing outside, although hereditary arthritis makes fingers hard to type and also leaves me rather stiff after playing rough basketball (not my favorite sport). But thank God for what we can do and for what He provides.

So I would say to pray to attain and keep a good weight, and to get the exercise God wants you to have, and as a rule go without food (and fast as the Lord leads, even if it is just for a short while relative to your weight - but not binge and fast cycles) until you feel your body needing food to function. That is how man was designed to live. And I think then you can eat sweets (not doughnuts) in small amounts if you keep lean and active. Thank God we even have so much food to enjoy - as well as resist!

Regulate insulin.
You must regulate insulin.
You must abandon other failed diet ideas in favor of regulating insulin, and eating “whatever you want over an eight hour period” does NOT regulate insulin.

Thanks! I left off one important part of my health success from my medical challenges — help from the good Lord above. My recovery from kidney issues still has my doctors scratching their heads in amazement. I could not have done any of it alone!
