This incident unfolded in Beaverton, Oregon, on January 16, according to The Oregonian. It was about 9 a.m., and the mom needed milk and meat. She put her four-year-old in the back seat, buckled him into his booster seat, and headed to the grocery store. She made sure to park right near the door and ran inside, leaving the car running and unlocked. ummm... she is a moron... if she's not going to take her child out, why not leave the car NOT running... and locked?!?!!!!!!!

A righteous carjacker.
Beaverton is a suburb of Portland. This is exactly the kind of carjacker I would expect because stealing a car is barely even a crime in that area (but kidnapping is). It has already been ruled in court, as I recall, that if a car thief is pulled over by cops for grand theft, all he has to do is say that he didn't know it was stolen (e.g. "My friend loaned it to me! I didn't know it was stolen!") and he avoids prosecution. No, I'm not kidding.

Are insurance rates higher in that city.
I am sure the professionals know the magic words, so they are more likely to go free than the one-offs.

Just a not-so-dumb criminal. He doesn’t want a kidnapping charge on top of the carjacking.

He probably could be charged for it, because it was technically kidnapping... but may be hard to convict him on it.

I read it in grade school, and mistakenly believed it was Mark Twain’s story. But he was really part of a whole literary movement, and Brett Hart and O. Henry were part of it, too, so he influenced them and they influenced him. So it’s easy to confuse them.

Even if the car-jackee identifies him in a lineup?
