What about self-induced lysteria?
You can’t know if the study is valid until you publish the study. Sounds familiar.
The study does not say what the anti-maskers are claiming it says. The anti-maskers argue that the claim of 100% efficacy of masks preventing the spread of covid is false so we should not use masks because somebody too stupid to clean them might get sick. All of that is BS. Masks prevent an infected person from spreading covid. Nobody is claiming they are 100% effective, but they are effective to a large degree. Some people just don’t want to wear them no matter how many people get sick. It’s that simple, and any excuse or straw man argument is good enough.
That still won’t stop the fraidy cats from requiring face diapers for those of US still fortunate to be employed.
Just maybe though, this masking crap will cease to be when Trump wins again as I believe the gloves will then come off.
We never wear masks with the Flu...I suppose now we have to wear them forever
They only slow the spread...
Mask or no mask, we must all wear arm bands. /sarc.
“cannot start discussing what [the journals] are dissatisfied with, because in that case we must also explain what the study showed, and we do not want to discuss that until it is published.”
Circuitous.
I suspect “social distancing” on the order of > 1/4 mile will work quite well.
Combined with a 15 second interaction time with a cashier and life can go on.
Unless its rated N95, the vast majority of masks are worthless! Good for preventing spew, and little else. The question is how sick do they make humans.
Surgical masks keep “spatter” out of OR staffs’ mouths.
If surgical masks prevented viral transmission to any significant degree, there would have been tons of research to back that claim up long before 2020.
Surgical masks for SARS-CoV-2 are nothing but a security blanket until proven otherwise.
Don’t hold your breath waiting for credible proof.
Holding your breath may prevent spread of the virus though...
I was thinking today how the Mask Nazis are going to rationalize their tyranny this winter when everyone’s breath is quite obviously emanating through their useless masks.
One of the reasons to publish a study is to permit others to repeat the experiment and challenge or verify the results. Peer-review is not the 22 year-old FB “fact checkers”.
They slow the spread and that is the whole point. Maybe if everybody had masked up for 3 weeks at the beginning we would have wiped it out then, but that was not realistic. Now it’s a fight to slow it down while we ramp up treatments. Not quite there or we wouldn’t have over capacity hospitals and 1,000 dead per day (roughly).
In some amount of time, not long, it will be endemic like the common flu, then we go back to regular behaviors and treat it with what ever we’ve developed. Right now it’s still much more dangerous than the flu.
But my point was that masks do make a difference, contrary to what the anti-maskers claim and are claiming (falsely) about this study’s conclusions.
“Masks prevent an infected person from spreading covid.”
Well, they prevent someone SNEEZING from putting mucous on you. To that extent they work. So does standing 3-4 feet away.
Now....where are the studies showing they prevent asymptomatic people from spreading squat? Or the studies showing asymptomatic people spread it to any significant degree at all?
Isn’t the scientific process to review all plausible theories objectively?
Sure seems that the whole mask thing is mostly political anymore. Certainly less scientific. There is a movement to suppress the science. It is a new religion. A cult. The cult of the mask.
It’s the science baby.
“Maybe if everybody had masked up for 3 weeks at the beginning we would have wiped it out then...”
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fair enough. But why make uninfected people wear them?
To what end? The reality is that we will all eventually be exposed.
It is no different than the flu in that respect. We will all be exposed eventually.
Yes mask nazis, keep telling us a mask will stop trillions of virus particles that are so small you need an electron microscope to see one.
