“Sukiyaki.” (Ue o Muite Arukou”). 1963 Kyu Sakamato”
You know, memory is an odd thing. I have solid memories of hearing that song when I was in the 5th grade, which would have been 1960 or 61.
Go figure.
(Apparently the presence of that o with a line over it wouldnt let me drop down a line. Weird.)
Apparently, she walked on sunshine so far that nobody has seen her since.
He was among the 520 (out of 524) that died on Japan Airlines Flight 123.
Norman Greenbaum
You're not including Greenbaum's "The Eggplant That Ate Chicago" as a hit?
Drivers Seat by Sniff ‘n’ the Tears
Two songs by daughters of famous singers:
Debby Boone — “You Light Up My Life”
Nancy Sinatra — “These Boots Are Made for Walking”
(Though I always say that Nancy had 1 1/2 hits, because she and her dad did “Something Stupid” together.)
This beauty actually sang Billie to me when I was a young teenager at a Cleveland TV station dance show. I was giggling with my buddies at the free Pepsi machine when a beautiful woman came up to me, and said she was going to sing a song to me. My buddies started teasing me, and when we sat down at an all boys’ table, a tv camera was in my face, the music started, and she stood behind me curling my hair while lip syncing to Billy. I sat frozen while the music played, and my mother watching it at home in black and white, said I looked like I was blushing. I later got her autograph and cherish it to this day. I’ll never forget it.
Wasn't The Martian Boogie a hit?
Listening to it now.
Thanks!
First video ever played on MTV.
Prophetically or ironically, who knows?
:D
Written by David Gates of “Bread” fame.
(Who was a HS classmate of Leon Russell, preceded shortly by Anita Bryant.)
I have a new favorite but it is not a one hit wonder.

I have a favorite for this song only. Don’t know if they had any hits. They now have a transgender in the band so I don’t care now but they didn’t have one then;
Steam Powered Giraffe - Honeybee

Holmes wrote the song Timothy to get it banned because the group was only offered a single by the record company. They wanted an album deal. How does one ( Holmes ) go from writing one of the most controversial songs in music history to ten years later doing one of the most trite songs of all times?
“Escape (The Pina Colada Song)” was the last #1 hit of the 1970s.
Hey everybody, ketchup!

Jon Astley is of no relation to Rick. He was by way of his sister Karen, the ex-brother-in-law of Who guitarist Pete Townshend.
I did not know he wrote both. Thanks.
You rich kids are always showing off! All I got for Christmas was the stick. We couldn’t afford cans. LOL
LOLOL!
[I got that stick off a dead tree and the cans outta the trash heap!]
I’ll never forget the local DJ messing that title up one day.
“Sniff ‘N The Seat by Driver’s Tears”
I nearly LMAO.
