The Titanic is falling to pieces, but this sword, which has been submerged ten times as long, is "fully intact"?
Verily, I say there is some sort of magick here...

Listen. Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not from some farcical aquatic ceremony.

Well I’m no doctor, but it sure looks to me like the lady in that x-ray may have cancer of the clitoris...
Oh...
Oh.
Sorry, my bad.

Suggests that it and the other finds might be votive offerings.

If you drop the knife, leave it, some archaeologist will find in a thousand years from now.

I came here for THIS!
We actually saw it at a COVID pop-up drive-in movie about a month ago. Wife knew most of the memes but had never seen it, it was her pick.
Conclusion: Its a guy flick, but she wasnt sorry she finally watched it.

I was just reading about
Titanic today.
Her worst attacker, other than 108 years in a saltwater environment, is a microorganism that eats iron and craps rust. The "rusticles" (called so by Dr. Ballard, who found her) are basically amoeba poop from these critters.
Brass and other nonferrous inorganics are actually in pretty good shape, where they weren't smashed by the ship hitting the bottom. I wouldn't mind a crack at some of the electric light fixtures still hanging around in there.

As long as we’re on RC dating, this always bugs me when it appears: “The wood used for its construction was cut down in the years 913 and 914..”
“The tree was cut down in 980, during the reign of Duke Mieszko I, the first documented ruler of Poland.”
Unless bark is present, the radiocarbon date doesn’t and can’t show anything of the kind (apart from an unverifiable coincidence).
No one is talking about radiocarbon dating. We are talking about dating by treerings.
The 913 and 914 dates are for the wood used in the bridge.
The 980 date is for wood used in the shore fortification.
The author makes it clear the year is for the date the tree was cut down.
The artifact could have been made later.

Thanks! The Titanic has decayed visibly since its rediscovery due to the digestion. The non-iron components in the iron (impurities introduced for metallurgical reasons) turned out to be the enabling factor for the digestion. In perhaps 50 years it'll just be a decaying pile of junk on the seafloor.

Fresh water low oxygen zone vs. salt water.
A very large difference, indeed.

I’m kinda glad I didn’t find it. I know it’s no basis for a legitimate government, but there’s a part of me that would never quit feeling like I should be king.
