I was actually fine with the $600 dollars out the gate. It was good, out-of-work people could use it to save up for a bout of COVID, among other things.

But then the Marxist Dumpster Fire happened. Paring the stipend down means out-of-work lefties will be more likely to spend the whole damned thing on food, plus it will help stave off economic collapse. You know, the thing that ensures that even those of us who “got ours” will be likely to starve or pass away from some now-preventable disease.

I tried that for a few daze in the early 70’s bad economic times. I thought it sucked. Redoubled my efforts to get a more permanent yob.

She likes it because it offers flexibility as to when and where. She was actually offered a better position with a raise and closer to home for the Fall but then the school system decided that they would go virtual.

I'd love to know if they are still paying the services staff at all of these schools.

I can answer your question. I too am retired. I worked hard my whole life and through that I was able to acquire rental units to supplement my retirement income. My tenants who are receiving the extra UI income have stopped paying rent. They are receiving more by not working AND they will not pay rent. That’s how some of us are affected. Do you think that’s fair? I receive nothing?

No, it is not fair, and yet the mantra of the Left is "there's no justice." Moreover, the gov. simply does not have the money to spend, which leads to a future crisis.

Actually, two other reasons Trump was wise to pare back the stipend.

1. As needed as the stipend is, there are businesses that are open that are having difficulty bringing their workers back because the stipend + state unemployment provide a better income than the jobs do. At least that’s how it seems, and it’s been reported on FOX. The decreased stipend, plus increased take home pay from the payroll tax moratorium, will alter that equation somewhat.

2. As needed as the stipend is, it is still a sort of indirect subsidy for state lockdowns. As long as that stipend exists, some governors will feel more comfortable keeping their economies locked down or slow-walking the re-opening, rather than re-opening as much as possible, as quickly as possible, to provide people alternatives, albeit health-riskier ones, to venturing into riot-torn cities for their needs and desires.

Nobody ever reports that Republicans were wanting to extend the $600 a week while negotiations continue. It was the Democrats who refused to extend unemployment benefits.
