So either Dan has to pick another name, or negotiate with the owner of the trademark.

I agree with that in principle. However, legally, I wonder if there aren't trademark squatting laws and "bad-faith" trademark regulations that would prevent him from actually getting them approved. From what I read, the trademarks have only been applied for and are not yet approved.

I posted “The Team Formerly Known As Redskins.” on anther thread early this morining along with;

“The Washington Drunken Injuns.”

“The Washington Filthy Savages.”

I’m pretty sure none of those are trademarked. I watch too many Westerns.

My choice for the new name is always one that should honor prominent DC figures. Former DC Mayor Marion Berry and John Dingell Jr.who holds the record for longest-ever serving member of Congress in American history and died last year. The new name should be;

“The Washington Dingellberrys.”

I guess they’ll still ignore the classic;

“The Washington Foreskins.”

Trademark is associated with USE of the mark or word. Whatever this guy thinks he has, I think he doesn’t.

My thought as well. If he applied for the trademark without intent to "use" it, I believe they consider it a "bad faith" application and will ultimately reject it.

Uhh, no! This is stupidity and cowardice at work. You may have a point, as these idiots probably think that the new team name will mean thousands of people will rush out and buy the new team logo and name on t-shirts, etc, but would you do it if they keep changing the name every time someone gets offended? I predict the franchise will be bought and moved in 5 years.
