We’ve been doing this, for years.

I bought inexpensice slippers, years ago - yeah...probably MIC - to keep by the door, if someone insists on wearing shoes/slippers, in the house.

I have a taped off area, about 6’ past the door, on the inside, where you cannot wear any outdoor shoes, past the tape. (For the littles, who forget to take their shoes off, outside.)

I just got 50 masks from Amazon. Took about a week. I needed them for work & grocery shopping for self and family. A bit of a rip-off, price-wise - about double what I paid back in February.

Nice! We have a milk that does pretty good with wheat berries, and a hand mill “just in case”. Years back we got a bunch of non-electric gadgets and hand tools like a crosscut saw I’m case we didn’t have electricity. Lehman’s was my favorite store for a while!

China’s first wave of coronavirus cases may have been four times bigger than originally reported
https://nypost.com/2020/04/24/china-first-wave-of-coronavirus-may-have-been-four-times-bigger/

By Laura Italiano

China had reported more than 55,000 cases as of Feb. 20 — but the true number would have been far greater if the country had used a later adopted, broader definition of what constitutes a COVID-19 case, The Guardian reported.

The original criteria for identifying Covid-19 was very narrow, the paper reports, citing a new study published in the Lancet.

We have a local tailor that is making very nice quality masks, that a lot of businesses are buying, to support local.

$5/mask

They are washable, 100% cotton....outer a nice weight denim type fabric, lining is a bandana.

Not N95, but...better than no mask at all.

Not this, again!

Strange how these collapsing bodies haven’t happened here, in the US, that I’m aware of.

What the heck is it, about China and these collapsing ppl?

Not good...

Farmers forced to kill hundreds of thousands of pigs as meat packing plants across the country close

‘This is our biggest crisis ever’

******
West Liberty Foods reported 52 of its 994 employees at its meat processing plant in West Liberty have tested positive for COVID-19 as of Friday.

That tally represents a jump from 39 confirmed coronavirus cases as of Thursday, as shared in a letter plant Manager Tom Alberti sent that day to employees and community members.

Indiana Packers To Shutter Delphi Facility, Majority Of State’s Pork Processing Now Halted

BROCK TURNER
Farmers are left with few options with what to do with live, mature animals.

Another Indiana pork processing facility is closing due to the coronavirus. It’s a move that will place additional pressure on the pork pipeline.

The Indiana Packers Corporation will suspend operations Monday at its Delphi processing facility, according to a letter sent to farmers Friday. It says the move responds to “an increasing number of positive tests of COVID-19 in neighboring communities and reports that Indiana is closing in on the expected peak of infections.”

According to data collected by FERN, as of April 24 at 12pm ET, at least 73 meatpacking and processed food plants have confirmed cases of Covid-19, and at least 15 meatpacking plants and three processed food plants are currently closed. At least 3,581 workers are confirmed sick and at least 17 have died

Now Brazil too...

Brazil JBS workers catch COVID-19 in latest meat plant outbreak

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-jbs/brazil-jbs-workers-catch-covid-19-in-latest-meat-plant-outbreak-idUSKCN2262QU

Comment: what is going on? Is it in the meat? I’m starting to wonder if plants are being deliberately sabotaged. But I also have wondered that about churches, conferences, and nursing homes. It seems like too many cases all happening simultaneously. I honestly don’t know what to think.

Illinois coronavirus: Stunning new numbers for COVID-19 cases in IL nursing homes

By Chuck Goudie, Barb Markoff, Christine Tressel, Ross Weidner and Jonathan Fagg
Friday, April 24, 2020 6:38PM

CHICAGO (WLS) — New data from the Illinois Department of Public Health shows COVID-19 cases grew exponentially since last week. Coronavirus cases are now in more counties and more facilities.

“All of these sort of group... communal settings are opportunities for COVID to spread very quickly, and it’s in a vulnerable population,” said Dr. Susan Bleasdale, Cheif Quality Officer and Infectious Disease Specialist for UI Health.

According to new state data released Friday and examined by the I-Team, corona-virus cases at long term care facilities more than doubled the past few days; from 18,60 cases to more than 4,200. The number of deaths has also surged from 286 to 624.

There has been a 67 percent jump in the number of infected nursing homes in Illinois. More counties have nursing homes with COVID-19 cases than just a few days ago.

My daughter has been stitching them for family & friends. I use the disposables for situations where I don’t want to use the “good one”.

There was one article about such a person. It’s in one of these daily threads too.

It was about a 50 something New York ex police sergeant, who went to the hospital, was diagnosed with CCP-19, was sent home with or without medicine, I can’t recall, and he apparently dropped dead a block or two away right there on the sidewalk.

That’s a good system :)

We use the ones I’ve sewn, for most outings....outings being a drive in the car, or to go check on our cows...in case something unexpected happens.

Hubby takes a disposable one if he has to meet anyone at the property. He keeps a good distance, and wears the mask. He had to meet the fence guy a few weeks ago.

I asked if the fence guy was wearing a mask....NO!...but, they kept about 15 feet apart. I can just picture them yelling at each other.

I gotta make a mental note not to eat there the next time I’m in Harbin.
