The numbers that you are quoting are still based on people tested divided by people who have died. They have done a lot of testing in South Korea but it is still a tiny fraction of the total population. And this is a virus where 50% of people infected have no symptoms and another 30% have very mild symptoms. The people getting tested in South Korea are still mostly people with serious symptoms.

Sure it can, the death rate is deaths / (+). which is always the worst case scenario, however, please feel free to continue to search for the dark cloud for any silver lining

Perhaps now is the time to administer the drug, chloroquine, to the sickest patients and observe the outcome. What do they have to lose?
If not, why not?
Here is the chance for babykiller Cuomo to become St. Cuomo.

Still a fear driven, hair on fire over-reaction. And the morons among the population have no problem with 'government' taking over and restricting rights and ruining citizen's lives.
Tell me what justifies these actions? Yes, it sounds like a hell of a nasty bug but the recovery rate is 98%...I actually heard 99.3% on the radio yesterday.
To: gas_dr
And yet the death rate is an amazing 0.5%, and going down each day. This is a Fearper article plain and simple Are the hospitals in New York starting to get a deluge of cases or not? Your "death rate" comments are an irrelevancy to whether or not that is true...this is the New York Times as the source, but also matches what is expected with the exponential spread of the pandemic. The "Fearper" meme is just shorthand to be used by those who refuse to discuss things from a basis of reality...as though being cute means things that are happening aren't actually happening.

Two thumbs up for "Trump Resistance" judges Derrick Watson [D-Hawaii] and Theodore Chuang [D-Maryland].
Take that, OrangeManBad! You can't keep infected Iranians out of the country, because we're presidents, too!

There’s actually already been a mass exodus, the many got out while the getting out was good.
To: DannyTN
If ou are not dead in 10 days (likely 7 - 8) you will likely be a recovered patient.

If there are 8,000 positive cases, the generally-believed rate is that 80% (6,400) have mild symptoms. That leaves 1,600 with more-severe symptoms. Let’s assume these 1,600 all need hospitalization (a big assumption). There are approximately 50 hospitals in NYC - that makes an average of 32 per hospital. Seems doable right now, but it is bound to get worse. How much worse? No one knows.

My sister is a nurse in a Chicago suburb and is saying the same thing. No supplies. No protocols. Doctors refusing to enter patient rooms and making the nurses do everything. Management more concerned about covering their asses than supporting their staff. Shes in tears with frustration and overwork. Says shes quitting hospital work after this is over. IL has 585 cases so far and they are running low on supplies?

Social Distancing is a problem. How do you get other ppl to respect it? I have a plan. Make T shirts that say in big, bold red letters “Tested Positive”. Then below it a large yellow traffic Warning sign or other traffic type sign with the words “Maintain Social Distance”. Should work well in non-concealed carry states.

Yet Lennox Hill hospital in NYC reported yesterday that they have treated a 100+ in patients with Hydroxychloroquine and not one death.
I would really REALLY appreciate a link to this.

South Korea has tested 313,000 people. And identified 8799 confirmed cases. They are not just testing people with symptoms. They’ve cast their testing net very wide.

In a startlingly quick ascent, officials reported on Friday that the state was closing in on 8,000 positive tests, about half the cases in the country. The number was 10 times higher than what was reported earlier in the week. The problem is obviously with the testing. If we didnt test, officially, no one would be getting, or dying, from COVID.
The reporter would no longer need to worry, then.
