This virus was not the scenario that anyone expected to start it.

Agree. We became aware of the virus from the pandemic flu board back in December. In January we discussed this and were certain it was heading this way.

We have been well prepared for decades. In January we agreed this one blindsided us from the issues of JIT to medical system collapse.

The current panic of the FluBroism believers is understandable considering how many prepared people had not foreseen this threat.

Understandably, FluBroism is going make the situation far worse in the coming weeks. They have not come to terms with the changes and will strike out in anger at their personal risk as well as challenges to the Potemkin reality they have shielded themselves with.

It appears that public schools, all across the US, are coming up with ways to get meals to their Free Breakfast Club peeps, during closures.

They must recieve a LOT of Govt $$ for those meals. Maybe more than educating, even :(

You have until some of them start coming back to finish any prepping you want to do.

There’s always Amazon or mail order, too.

And spring is coming so you can grow food.

Professors are kicking because going online is the first step to eliminating tenured positions and all the campus-housing, inflated salaries, golden parachutes and other perks that professors currently enjoy. Applied science classes, or the labs thereof, bio/chem/physics labs, etc., are the ones that can’t really translate to online, but all of the humanities and academics absolutely can.

I saw one of the Chinese platforms in action and it’s the teacher in a window up top, but the teacher and the students can all see each other in side windows - it’s not a one-to-one skype setup, but a group meeting type setup. I figure if a 20-something American English teacher in China can navigate their platform within a day or two, a liberal American academic teacher should be able to figure it out in a week or two. :)

Moving forward, I can see schools changing drastically. No need to build more elementary or high schools - go online. Eliminates latch-key kids, eliminates bullying, eliminates teacher strikes, bus driver strikes...the list goes on. Save the existing schools for labs that can’t be supported online. And for social events that continue the sense of community. it’s not a new concept - homeschoolers have proved homeschooling works already.

There would be no FULL STOP through the Highland Lakes dams which were built to generate hydroelectric power for Central Texas from Llano Co. down to Austin.

“CNN just showed video of people in Milan, Italy—a city that has the virus about as bad as you can get it—and all the lights were on... ;-)”

In spite of the alarmist talk, I’m certain we will not have power shortages. Power demand will drop substantially as places are temporarily closed.

What I do expect is that for normal random outages there will be some slightly longer wait times for repairs if the problem occurs in a quarantine zone.

Maybe CA will have problems. It always has power problems.

If we’re still in crisis 4, 5, 6 months from now, all bets are off. And many will be deciding which neighbors they can catch and eat. Don’t expect it to last nearly that long.

Sounds like a very good and well thought plan and process.

Prayers for your family.

We’re all in a similar situation, I am sure. Hopefully, others have planned as well as you and your family have.

Yes, probably. I’m not worried as much as we all kind of kicked into high alert/high gear today. I will be worried if my son starts to run a fever. Flu is on the decrease here.

“To their east, Australia and Poland have shut their borders.”

Australia is really, really far to the east. And south. Austria, maybe? That’s south of Germany, mostly.

Interesting that originally Poland shut everything down, except Churches.

I think they’ve since reconsidered.

Lack of volunteers in CA is causing food banks to close.
