Bernie will be a dumpster fire of epic proportions. Throughout modern history “socialism” has made inroads during times of economic malaise and strife. It is easier to sell socialism to a miserable populace.
We are enjoying an unprecedented period of prosperity and peace.
Bad timing.
Another consideration - much of Bernie’s popularity is based on his populism and criticism of the elites. Trump used this same message to claim the mantle of championing the working class. He not only stole Bernie’s message, he has fulfilled his promises and made life better for the working class American!
What does this all leave Bernie with? He is facing his last chance for his ideas to win against a massive wave of prosperity and an opponent who has taken his most popular shtick.

Up here in Minnesota, I’m still trying to decide if I’m gonna cross over and vote in the Dem primary.
My sole problem with that is you have to verbally choose whether you want a Democrat or Republican ballot. Though your voting choice is secret, the fact you chose a partisan ballot is not. Both parties get a complete list of the names of everyone who choose either a Dem or GOP ballot.
The downside is that I’ll get inundated with kinds of mailings from the Dems starting this fall and proceeding into infinity. I don’t want that at all.

If the Bern game is what sends Sanders to the general, we'll know it by election results that won't be pretty, because God is not mocked.
