Or even Devin Nunes! (Devin is Portuguese, not Mexican)
Other than that Devin can take lots of crap from the
dark side. In fact, the Fresno Bee, his regional newspaper
of record, is renown for dumping on him constantly. He
gets the CNN treatment from them on a daily basis. He
is probably the most notable and powerful politician from
the Fresno area ever. If he was a Democrat holding the same
status he would be a big time rockstar in the San Joaquin
Valley and POTUS promos would be flying. Although the
area is relatively red it isn’t reflected in the local
media coverage.

Tho’ Devin can take a punch and hang in there I haven’t
seen indications he is a counter puncher which is
something the Trump base has grown to love and
expect.

I try to follow Nunes’ local news although I reside
250 miles and a few congressional districts away. He
and I are both Cal Poly SLO grads so that has been
a key reason I’ve become such a loyal fan of his.

I don’t know that Acts 4 31-32 which leads into Acts 5 and the story of Ananias and Saphira fits here, the church was just getting started and not all the bugs had been figured out yet in terms of work, offerings, and private property. Later as the church grew, the layabouts were adjured by Paul and were told that “if they would eat they must work”.

The early Pilgrims tried this same method of ‘commonwealth’ which nearly destroyed them until the governor decreed that all must work or they can’t eat, and he allowed for private property and private use of each family’s own resources stipulating that tithes and some excess of each family’s yearly harvests be sent into the community store house for the use of of the widows, indigent orphans and the like. The year after the decree, the storehouse was brimming and a general thanksgiving feast was held.

If you want to know about why socialism and communism fails, read about what happened to the pilgrims. Ananias and Sapphira died because they misrepresented the money they gave as being the full price they received for the land they sold. Peter said the money was in their control and they were free to give what they wanted, they just were not supposed to lie about it. It would have been perfectly reasonable to hold some funds back so they could care for their own needs without burdening the rest the group.

I think you actually agreed with my premise in your last paragraph.

The early Christians had all things in common AFTER praying in the Holy Ghost ( 4:31 and 32 "31 And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common") ... so they were all voluntarily of one mind.

What follows with Ananais and Saphira is not a description nor even part of an explanation regarding socialism, but the results of disobedience after (apparently) being in voluntary agreement to sell and give all.

In a sense .... Peter was the "govt. or controlling" element ... the enforcement if you will, of the "socialist" order agreed upon.

This is just how God spoke to my heart during yesterday's message.

So I created a meme synopsizing the whole thought process.

Gregg Abbott has too much of his own corruption.

If you staked him out over a fire anthill like in some old western movie, the guy would gladly die in freakish pain before he could be made to even utter “Civil Forfeiture Reform.”

Abbot becomes apoplectic at the thought that a conviction might need to be a prerequisite to take things from the citizenry, and that things seized from citizens might have to be returned without charging fees or going through court proceedings.

He’s still a big step up from Perry though. The guy isn’t presidential and a guy that corrupt would be caught doing something and be blackmailed by the deep state before finishing a single day as president.

Peter never commanded the people to do what the people felt impressed by the Spirit to do. The Spirit led consensus of the new Christians was the enforcement element. That A and S felt a bit differently about that consensus but felt that for appearance sake they had to lie to the group and ultimately to God was a tragedy. Now how history would have gone differently if A and S had said, “We sold for this price but out of that we are giving half.” is anyone’s guess. Perhaps an early message about the need to work and tithe might have come out of that message.

Peter and the other apostles had been with Jesus for three years and theirs was a band of sharing and comraderie. It was a pattern they had to draw on in helping the new church get off to a good start. As the church grew and spread across the world, of course new forms of worship, authority, and order unique to their locales would spring up.

I don’t question the meme itself, just the linkage of the notions of dictatorship with what was going on in the early church. The fact of Chapter 5 happening after 4:31-32 shows that verse 32 was an arbitrary break in the narrative in that what was really going on in the early church was the almost direct control of the events by the Holy Spirit...not control by the apostles themselves. The Holy Spirit it seems did some direct weeding out of potential bad elements all on his own.

The story of Joseph saving Egypt, Pharoah and the known world by the wisdom imparted by God is a story of positive dictatorship. The warnings of Samuel to Israel should they still insist upon dictatorship/monarchy to rule them fits more your meme.(warnings of loss of freedom, forced servitude, and the imposition of burdensome taxes...sound familiar?)

PS. If you want to know about a truly impending dictatorship....read Revelation 12, about the child brought forth that was then snatched up to heaven from hence he would rule the nations with a rod of Iron.

I grew up in San Rafael and lived in Marin County for 29 years. It’s a little bit like a microcosm of 60’s California, due to having so little (and ultra-expensive) housing stock and being smart enough to keep BART from building an extension from Richmond. Super expensive, super-liberal, but far fewer problems than San Francisco. And the natural beauty of the parks and coast is amazing.

Marin and Orange Counties are the only two places in California I would still consider living in - but I would need a very big financial incentive to come back. :)

You're overthinking my comment. I never said, nor implied, Peter "commanded" or was the "enforcer" ... If anything v.... he was the monitor.

Again, you're overthinking this.

The dictatorship I referenced was established by my use of present tense verbs ... "are" and "is".

Thank you for accepting the meme
