LOL. You have no idea what you are talking about. The NFL didn't institute the salary cap until 1994, which was the last year the 49ers won a Super Bowl. If anything, the salary cap hurt the 49ers more than anything. Within a few years of the salary cap, Dwight Clark was no longer with the 49ers. Soon after that DeBartolo was no longer the owner. Once he was no longer the owner, and the 49ers legacy of winning was dead. (By the way, I knew Dwight Clark}

The Yorks hate Bill Walsh. They tried to build the team around the Bill Parcells legacy.

fair enough, timelines off, memory gone, but I recall some major money issue being swept under the rug revolving around that time. In any event, it was a heck of a catch. Nobody recalls that the ‘boys were in FG position when Danny White fumbled away the chance to win it :D

I wouldn't call the 44 yard line field goal position. The longest field goal Septien ever made was a 57 yarder in college. No reason to think they'd even try at 61 yards. (I thought most Cowboys fans pretended he didn't exist anymore. I heard he's a heavy metal drummer now. Go figure.)

But they key play was the previous play. White hit Drew Pearso deep, and Eric Wright made a fingetip tackle to stop him from going deep into FG range, or possibly for a TD. That saved the game.

But the play where White fumbled was a great play. It may have been Dwayne Board, but I'm not sure.

What you may be referring to is in 1987, DeBartolo offered players a $10,000 bonus to win the division. The NFL decided he couldn't do that and fined him $50,000. HIS PLAYERS though it was wrong and paid THE OWNER the money to pay the fine, which he have to charity. No one was trying to cheat. Just a great owner.

It came out the week the 49ers were playing the Bears on MNF, and Jim McMahon had DeBartolo could have paid the Bears $10k for the same result.

“Was Pete Rose ever charged with a crime?”

In a roundabout way, yes. Rose was sentenced to five months in prison and fined $50,000 for cheating on his taxes.

Rose was sentenced for failing to report more than $354,000 in income from baseball memorabilia sales, autograph appearances and the gambling for which he was banned for life from professional baseball. So the gambling, to include on baseball, was contributory to his tax evasion crime and he was punished for it.

Information on Joe Jackson concerning anything that doesn’t directly entertain the “scandal,” is hard to find. He was a very secretive person.

yeah, long history of great tight ends and running backs and mediocre kickers. Rafael only *needed* a few more yards... but Mr. White was always the bridesmaid. :)
